BACKGROUND: |
Details Of Phoenix's past are still shrouded in mystery. He rose from the ashes of what was once Tribunal. Temperamental and violent, he walks a fine line between Hero and Vigilante. He has suffered from personality disturbances following his separation from the other forms that were Tribunal. Since the death of Crucible, he has rededicated himself to the fight for justice and good (still in his own way) and has emerged as a leader of the Knights of the Coast, a responsibility that he greets with mixed emotions. He also distinguished himself as a public face for Exotics when he delivered a heartfelt speech warning against the Keene Act before Congress during the March Crisis, and another in defense of Captain Thunder at his trial. In the wake of the passage of the Keene Act, and given his emergence as a paranormal of note concerned with the effects of this bill, Phoenix was appointed to one of the six positions (as the token extranorm) on The Overwatch Committee, and resigned as leader of the Knights in mid-April, 2001. A few short months later, and Phoenix was on the run after being accused of involvement in the disappearance of a Federal Agent by the name of Jay Smithers. When the group too fell afoul of the Government, he rejoined them in hiding. When certain elements of the Government attempted to forcibly reamalgamate Tribunal in the aftermath of this affair, the suspended "biological components" of that entity became pawns in a struggle between F.O.R.C.E., Dr. Cyclops (who called Phoenix "the greatest creation his brother ever devised") and the Knights of the Coast. Although Phoenix was successfully rescued (with the reintegration apparently undone), the bacta tanks holding the other two entities were smashed, leaving the Hound of Justice comatose, and Trey Parker - mysteriously missing. This experimentation has caused a further shift in the nature of Phoenix's abilities, transforming his great leaping ability into an ability to fly, for one thing. |

KotC ENCOUNTERS: |
- as Tribunal, he encountered Crucible and Oberon during the crash of the space shuttle. - this affiliation formalized and expanded as Coast City became the focus for more paranormal activity. - when Tribunal became unstable, Phoenix emerged to lead the group in pursuit of Dr. Cyclops. - stepped into a leadership role after the death of Crucible, and ushered Cipher, Perseus, and Wraith into the group. - in the wake of the passage of the Keene Act, and given his emergence Phoenix accepted a position on The Overwatch Committee and resigned from active leadership of the group. - when both he and later on the entire team fell afoul of the Government, he rejoined them in 'exile' and fought alongside them once more against the machine plot to overthrow the U.S. government, until his capture after having helped rout the entity responsible. - required rescue by the remainder of the team after Dr. Cyclops tried to hijack a plan elements within the Government to once again forcibly reamalgamate him with the other elements of Tribunal. His brief imprisonment at Humanidyne Inc. did not leave him unchanged, however. - when the squad was sent to Rio des Madrona on a mission to take out General Mayhem, Phoenix went undercover and ended up leading a team of mercenary exotics in a 'failed' attempt to capture the other Knights of the Coast. Seeking to maintain his cover, he didn't pull any punches in the attack and ended up brutally taking out Sub-Zero in the process. Even so, his cover was blown in this incident and the group was forced to come to the rescue when a $1,000,000 bounty was placed on his head amidst a crowd of villains eager to collect within MAYHEM's Underwater Base. |
