From the field notes of F'Lar, Anla'Shok for the Institute of Contact
- The Ophidian republic is based upon the principles of Manifest Reptilian Superiority and an aggressive
'liberation' of resources of planets (to them, conservation is not a big item for the universe will provide for
those who work hard enough for it). To install a governer on a world is to ensure that a planet is making the
most of its resources and for the greater good of the Republic (plus personal profit along the way). A rich
state is made of rich individuals, therefore the state aids the pursuit of wealth to enrich itself as long as
it is recognized that the state is responsible for the conditions that best encourage the accumulation of the
Good Life.
- What this usually means is that a state-funded expedition (military back up and ships) will seek out new
worlds, install a governer, and set up the appropriate manufacturing plants etc. The populace will be relocated
as slaves when deemed necessary.
- They have FTL drives, but no proper hyperspace technology (they have to take the long way around for the
most part, and are equipped with suspension chambers).
- There are a lot of flags and anthems to be found in any Ophidion dominated zone.
- The D'kai are the first technologically superior race that the Ophidions have
encountered, but not that they will admit it.
- Ophidions have an Octal based system (three fingers and a thumb).
- They have various races in distinct roles and an informal caste system. Within these castes (most markedly
amongst the military), their ranks are organized according to a strict color-coded rank system consisting of
(as I have observed); RED-BLACK, GREY-RED, BLACK, BLACK-GREEN, GREY-GREEN.
- Militarily, their base unit is the Squad, consisting of 7 Grey-Greens and 1 Black-Green (totalling 8
individual, or '10' according to their numbering scheme). An Ophidian Battle Squad consists of 7 Squads,
plus a Squad of Black-Greens (totalling 64/'100' warriors).
