The Knights of the Coast superhero collective was formed in late October, 2000 by Crucible, Oberon, and Tribunal in response to an increasing tide of supervillain activity in Coast City. The fledgling group attracted new members, including Sub-Zero, Hazardman, and Cipher, and the attention of other organizations such as the Hero Collective and the US Military.

Although never formally acknowledged as such, Crucible acted as the leader of the Knights until his untimely death in deep space. Afterwards Phoenix stepped up to inherit the same unofficial position.

As the group aged and grew in standing, they made strides towards the completion of a secret base, the Knight's Redoubt, and acquired a team jet, the Knightrider 1. At the same time, however, they battled an extremely high turnover rate, depleted in spirit and numbers by battle and mind-warping artifacts. When Phoenix resigned as group leader to accept a position on the Overwatch Committee, no clear leader could be found to take his place.

In mid-June, 2001, a strategem launched by the forces of The Industrial Revolution resulted in this group being hunted by the Federal Government and taking the desperate measure of attacking numerous heroic organizations in an attempt to free their ally Victor Stewart from captivity. While in hiding, they were rejoined by Phoenix.

In the aftermath of the machine plot to overthrow the U.S., both Phoenix and Templar were in the custody of F.O.R.C.E.. The remainder of the squad voted to turn themselves in likewise. The group then cut a deal to be forgiven for the laws they had broken in exchange for being sent against one of the nations greatest enemies; General Mayhem.

This mission would almost break the back of the group when they lost StarSeed and Ariadne during an ill-planned attempt to flee the war-torn banana republic of Rio des Madrona. Determined to pull together, the remaining members of the team voted to make Phoenix the tactical leader of a refocused group.

    TACTICS  :  Cipher has operated largely in an invaluable supporting role for the group, using her invisibility as a screen from which to entangle opponents. She has at her control a variety of entangle options, as well as a Universal Field NND attack and the ability to manipulate objects remotely via telekinesis. Defensively, Cipher is protected as much by her invisibility as her force field.

    TACTICS  :  Crucible is enthusastic, but impulsive and has a tendency to over-commit fostered by years of encountering only second-rate villains. Tragedy in his past has caused him to strongly value the lives of innocents over all, and he has a large self-destructive streak. In battle he relies as much upon intuition as logic, and uses the full range of his flame multipower. Defensively, Crucible is weaker, and often gets injured in the line of duty. His death, attempting to protect Earth from the ravages of the Ophidian Republic, was regrettable, but not unexpected.

    TACTICS  :  Combining unplumbed mutant abilities with his skills with fire arms and gadgets, Marco uses his weapons to combat most styles of foes. Lacking in mobility, he relies on heavy armor to give him the time to take down his opponents.

    TACTICS  :  New to the Hero business, what Hazardman lacks in experience and ability he makes up for in enthusiasm. He possesses a keen sense for danger and an instinctive ability to make use of his environment in unorthodox ways to surprise opponents who underestimate him based upon a lack of powers. Defensively, Hazardman can handle the most severe punishment.

    TACTICS  :  His partially-fluid nature grants Hydro the ability to absorb a considerable amount of damage and to stretch his form to strike at an unexpected distance. His physical attacks are backed by the pounding fury of the sea itself and he has a control over water which he can use to incapacitate a foe.

    TACTICS  :  Oberon has at his grasp a wide variety of attacks, from Lightning Bolts and his magically enhanced sword to a collection of mental attacks. Quick to throw himself into the midst of a fray, Oberon often makes himself a target of multiple assaults that his defenses are not quite sufficient of protecting him from. Nonetheless, he has been one of the most effective Knights in battle. Currently, he has retired from active duty with the Knights in order to attempt to free his homeland from the ravages of an invading force.

    TACTICS  :  Perseus prefers stealth and intelligence gathering. When engaged, he will close quickly and use Find Weakness and his B'Tai staff to devastate an opponent with MA attacks. If he cannot close, he can attack at range with an AP blaster. Defensively, Perseus' Damage Reduction and high DV makes him a difficult target to put down, despite weak defenses.

    TACTICS  :  Phoenix is emotional and impulsive, relying upon the strength and power anchored in his martial arts attacks to carry the day. Subtlety is a secondary concern in most cases. Defensively, he is a tough cookie and lets nothing knock him from his feet so long as he retains a spark of consciousness.

    GROUP    :  Formerly associated with the Knights of the Coast
    TACTICS  :  Cutthroat financial tactics. Doesn't risk himself to physical conflicts. Lawrence's involvement with the group has lessened since the death of Crucible, but he remains inextricably tied into certain financial arrangements.

    GROUP    :  Formerly one of the co-leaders of the original Injustice Gang, now informally associated with the Knights of the Coast.
    TACTICS  :  A reformed supervillain, Victor Stewart (aka the Screaming Skull) now supports the KotC's endeavours to do good with the assistance of his knowledge, leadership, and gadgets. Forced into an engagement, he has a widely variable array of devices which he can rely upon to act. His cunning and intelligence should not be underestimated, despite a friendly and honorable mien.

    TACTICS  :  Subzero is cool and collected under fire. Possessed of a wide range of ice-based powers, he wields them with creativity to launch ice bolts or entangles at opponents. When attacked, his icy form provides an adequate, though not invulnerable, defense against most assaults.


    NAME     :  TEMPLAR

    GROUP    :  Formerly independant, currently with the Knights of the Coast.
    TACTICS  :  When forced into a direct confrontation, Templar can unload with a variety of mystical or magical effects. He prefers to use non-lethal means - at least against human opponents - but can foil an opponent with a variety of mental entangles, flash attacks. He also can provide assistance to comrades in a battle by means of metaphysical defense, healing, and dispellings. Slow and not very agile, he yet remains a suprisingly tough person to put down.

    STATUS   :  Deceased/In Stasis, November 2000.

    TYPE     :  Martial Artist/Brick
    GROUP    :  Founding member of The Knights of the Coast
    TACTICS  :  Chooses form to match circumstances. In the shape of Big Blue he is a straightforward Brick, preferring a stand-up fight. As Nightshade he prefers to use Martial Skill rather than brute strength. As the Hound, he possessed keen senses and a limited ability to teleport, along with an unearthly howl. Unfortunately, the latter two forms are possessed of relatively weak defenses so most combats are fought out in Big Blue form. Unable to overcome problems of instability, the personality of Big Blue is apparently extinct, and the forms of the Hound and Nightshade are in stasis in order to preserve their lives until a means of stabilizing them can be found.

    TACTICS  :  Wraith has only a limited ability to interact with the outside world, a fact which has been both a boon and a curse to him. While his immaterial state protects him from most attacks, it also strongly limits his ability to 'lend a hand' where needed. In combat, he has been able to assist via the spectral revolver that is his primary form of attack, though he can also unleash an NND when he gets close enough to an opponent.
