BACKGROUND: 
Golden-age mystic who derived most of his powers by using his Mask to channel extradimensional forces. Often tangled with the Nazi occultist known as the Hierophant, and Wotan, a demonologist obsessed with immortality.

In the original timeline of the Knights of the Coast, it appears that his attempt to contain the attempted outbreak of the Lord of Chaos, Tsogorrolah, was fought to a standstill. Imprisoned within the same pocket plane that served to contain that demon, he was encountered by the group in the semblance of the Tarotesque Hermit and engineered to send them back in time to assist in that battle. After the group assisted him in defeating the Lord of Chaos (irrevocably changing this timeline), he was freed.

In the revised timeline, the Masque went on to have a lengthy career, tangling with the Cadre for control of the Spear of Destiny. He is believed to have retired to Tibet, which provides another suggestion of a link between him and the Silver Sorcerer who is known to have contacts in that region.
