CRU-S
|
| QUOTE: | "Query: What is this thing called a 'soul'?" |
BACKGROUND: |
The Knights salvaged a backup version of the The Hero Collective's A.I., Galahad, from the ruins of the Citadel. Reactivated for information-gathering purposes by Cipher, it was given the designation "Crucible Scientist" and granted minimal access to the computer resources of the group. Although intended only to be revived in order to retrieve information about the Justice Machine, this 4th-Generation A.I. imprinted upon Cipher (from whom it developed a sense of naive curiosity) who kept it running and over time granted him more and more permission to access the computer and communication systems in the base. She also reactivated one of the floating orbs and spider walkers retrieved from the Citadel, giving him a limited ability to 'get around' in the base. By early April, in the absence of the techophobic Phoenix and most of the other active Knights, he was acting as a sort of majordomo for the base, routing the incoming communications as appropriate. It also sought to determine its own identity and requested that it be addressed as "Cru-S", pronounced cruz in a show of independance. In mid-June, 2001, Cru-S was stolen from the Knight's Redoubt by machine entities determined to "eliminate organics". In the fight to get him and Cipher back, it was apparently destroyed by Sub-Zero who mistook it for an agent of the machine foes. After some investigation of the scrap metal left by this attack, Cipher came to the conclusion that the device destroyed was merely a 'relay mechanism' of some sort, and didn't possess the unique memory chips that made up Cru-S. They tracked the true memory core down to the New York base of the The Industrial Revolution, and launched a raid which resulted in said core being teleported out of the base under confusing circumstances. What happened to it thereafter is being doggedly pursued by Cipher. |

KotC ENCOUNTERS: |
- activated by Cipher on March 23, 2001. Took on role of majordomo in mid-April. - stolen during a raid of the Redoubt by the robot servants of The Industrial Revolution. Believed destroyed during the raid of the Chicago base of The Industrial Revolution, some intelligence suggested that this belief was in error. A subsequent raid of the New York base resulted in Cru-S' core being teleported away with a couple of The Minute Men, a small insectile animech and an unconscious Templar. What happened to it thereafter is unknown. |
KotC COMMENTS: |
- Templar: "You might be capable of the semblance of thought, but when it comes down to it you remain a soul-less assemblage of spare parts." - Cipher: "Cru-S is no mere machine! It has Rights!" |
