QUOTE:  "Prepare to be Thunder-Struck, Miscreant!"
"What I do, I do out of love. Love for the fate of Mankind."
"I am the Sword to His Glory."

BACKGROUND:

The nemesis of Black Lightning.

During the battle at the Temple of Blood and Dirt, Thunder's weakness was discovered by Templar, who exploited it with a series of dispels. Enwreathed in lightnings, when the smoke cleared Thunder was revealed to be an old, unimposing man. He can apparently assume the powerful form of Captain Thunder by exclaiming "I am the Thunder!".

Back in the States, a repentent Thunder was subjected to a kangaroo trial by the Senate for his actions during the March Crisis and forbidden the use of his powers except as duly authorized.

No sooner was this trial complete, than Thunder became a pawn in a different game as he was snatched by competing supervillain groups as the prize in a twisted game. With the possible fate of the world on the line, he managed a final heroic act - dropping his mystical defences allowing Hydro to knock him out of the influence of the Eye of Azoth, a blow that would ultimately claim his life.

MOTIVATION:

Uphold the Good (boy scout).

TACTICS:

Captain Thunder believes that subtlety and misdirection are for villains and wimps. He uses his tremendous speed and strength to perform unstoppable move-throughs and fly-bys. Defensively, Captain Thunder is also a very tough customer, though he is vulnerable to Flash attacks and dispels intended to strike at his mystical origin.

KNOWN STRENGTHS:

High Strength; practically impervious to Entangles.

KNOWN WEAKNESSES:

No Flash Defenses. Vulnerability to dispel magic attacks. Slowed by mental entangles.

OFFENSIVE POWERS:

Move-Throughs and -Bys backed by a considerable speed and high Strength.

DEFENSIVE POWERS:

High SD/Hardened Defenses. Some mental defences.

NON-COMBAT POWERS:

No Data.

FOCII/EQUIPMENT:

No Data.

LOCOMOTION:

Flight (40").

KotC ENCOUNTERS:

- took part in the training exercise between the Knights of the Coast and the Hero Collective.

- the relationship between him and the Knights took a rocky turn after he was disgruntled at ostensibly having to save our bacon from The New Injustice Gang.

- testified against Victor Stewart during that individual's trial.

- interacted with the group on a number of occasions during the March Crisis. His rivalry with Phoenix deepened, virtually guaranteeing that the two teams would end up on opposite sides of the fence, an outcome which was realized with Thunder's outburst before Congress.

- partook in the battle against the Knights and Guardians as the possessed members of the Justice Machine attempted to invoke the Final Solution. Captured during this battle and freed of the malevolant influence of Avatar by Templar, he vowed to try to make amends...

- after being captured by the Crimson Claw, he was tortured and forcibly bonded to the Eye of Azoth, as the "perfect vessel" for the Claw's unearthly master. After a mystical attack from Templar which momentarily eliminated the mental domination that kept him from acting, he was able to drop his defences allowing an attack from Hydro (on orders from Templar) to knock him free from the influence of the Eye. This blow ultimately killed the erstwhile hero.

KotC COMMENTS:

- Phoenix: [to Congress]"Captain Thunder is a dick, but he fights for this Country because he believes in it."
- Hazardman: "I bet he spells 'America' with a 'k'...
- Steel Tiger: "Ya really wanna know what I think about Captain Fascist and his Gestapo Machine?"
- Templar: "My actions and decisions resulted in the death of this Hero. Although I had no real alternative, his blood will forever stain my hands."
