BACKGROUND: 
Though his origin is shrouded by the mists of time, this much has been determined. If began with a priest-sorcerer from the Nile Valley region who sought to install himself as absolute ruler. However, from beneath his merciless reign there arose a champion of the people, chosen by a higher power to overthrow his tyranny. Already the priest-sorcerer had bargained awaymuch to gain his legendary powers, but now fleeing he had naught to turn to but the hungry dark gods. They granted him power to combat the champion and it would be his destiny to repeat this battle down through the incarnations that would follow. The priest-sorcerer's name was lost to time, leaving only the echoes of his cruelty until he was reborn in the modern era as Black Lightning. The horrible emptiness that eats at his black soul only finds solace in destruction and the contemplation of vengeance upon the current incarnation of his eternal foe - Captain Thunder.

Black Lightning was captured by Silver Sorcerer in the aftermath of the the attack upon the Crucible Memorial Ceremony, and was taken off to a place where "he would trouble us no more". Alas, a mere three months later he showed up as a cog in the conspiracy amidst the March Crisis, which has led to certain questions...
