After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor which plunged the United States into World War II, and the unveiling of the Nazi collection of exotics known as the Waffen Ubersoldat, Franklin D. Roosevelt responded with a call for the American "mystery men" of the time to band together in defense of their country. The call was answered by a number of heroes who formed the first publicly-recognized American superhero organization, the All-Star Squadron. Members of this group saw active duty on a number of fronts during WWII, then disbanded in the aftermath of that conflict, but not before sowing the seeds of what would be a number of superhero organizations who would follow in their footsteps.
