The
south-west facing beach is easily accessible from the
yard and is lovely for sunning, having picnics and exploring
tide-pools. Kids (of all ages) have a great time building
driftwood rafts and floating about the shallow cove. There
are usually two high and two low tides a day. On a very
low tide, the cove will drain completely.

Blue
Heron is located on the very south coast of Vancouver Island,
with views towards Beacon Hill Park and Washington State's
Olympia Mountains. A real plus is the lovely neighborhood
and the waterfront walking, jogging and biking trails located
along the sea coast. The property is situated at the start
of several miles of public park land running along the south
coast of Vancouver Island and you can walk for miles either
on the beach or headland paths. Beacon Hill Park, a huge
City Park with children's play areas and a petting zoo is
mere minutes away.

Sightings
of blue heron, otter, wild birds, ducks, sea lions and seals
are common and on rare occasions whales may even be spotted.
Many migratory birds and ducks pass through in the spring
and fall as we are located on the Pacific flyway. A small
flock of harlequin ducks even overwinters in the cove. Great
blue herons are seen almost daily in the cove.

The
annual Swiftsure sailboat race starts from just in front
of the beach house. Hundreds of sailboats prepare for the
start of the race.

A
full service shopping center with groceries, cafes, delis,
bakeries, a health food store, a liquor store, a pharmacy
and a bank is only two blocks away. It is a unique find,
as there are only about fifty properties located within
Victoria proper that are situated right on the ocean; most
Victoria 'waterfront homes' are situate across a busy street
from the sea.
