Christy MacRae, wife of Duncan MacRae, was born in Kintail, Scotland in 1823. Her father was a sheep farmer. Naturally, she early learned to spin and knit. She soon became very proficient, and before coming to Canada won prizes for her knitting. During her life her blankets, carpets, fancy work and all the work of her hands, were greatly admired by many.
