The background experience of Beth Candlish is mainly agricultural, through education, practical farming, research and information retrieval. As a Commissioner and Research Scientist at the Canadian Grain Commission, an information researcher with the Canada Grains Council, and a Research Associate at the University of Manitoba, I gained a variety of information retrieval expertise.
My formal education consists of a PhD from the University of Manitoba in Plant Biochemistry and Animal Nutrition, a M.Sc. in Plant Biochemistry from the same University. Macdonald College, McGill University, was where my formal agricultural education began with a B.Sc (Agr.) specializing in Animal Nutrition with a minor in Agricultural Economics.
Since 1978 I have been self-employed as Beth Candlish PhD, except for the years from late 1981 to early 1986 when I was a Commissioner at the Canadian Grain Commission. Spare time activities include involvement with the Liberal Party, flying a Cessna 172, photography and travelling to keep in touch with my family on Hornby Island, B.C., Victoria, B.C., Oakville, and Peterborough, ON. One lives in Calgary, I moved here to reduce the number of places to which I had to travel to 4!

For years I collected family tree information for the Candlish family. My father had a family tree done professionally in 1935, to which I had access. As a result of having this information and receiving requests via email from Candlish connections around the world, the information is being assembled at
