With proper care, your fine quality silver will
last a lifetime. Store your sterling silver jewellery in a cool,
dark place away from direct sunlight or sources of high heat.
To minimize scratches and other damage, store your silver jewellery
either in a cloth pouch or in a separate compartment in your jewellery
box. Using sealed bags, like Zip Lock bags, or jewellery boxes
can help minimize contact with chemicals in the air. Never store
your sterling silver in paper or cotton filled boxes as they may
contain traces of sulfur. Always take your jewellery off before
applying lotions and avoid exposing your silver to household chemicals
like bleach and ammonia or when swimming in chlorinated water
as these chemicals can damage silver.
CLEANING
YOUR STERLING SILVER JEWELLERY
Sterling Silver Jewellery that is tarnished can
be cleaned using warm water with a mild soap, rinsing it, then
drying it thorougly with a soft cloth. Cotton swabs can be used
on narrower areas. Never use tissues or brushes to clean your
sterling silver as they can scratch the silver as well as damage
any gemstones in your piece. If you polish your jewellery, always
make sure it is done quickly and all traces of the polish are
removed. Also check to see if the polish is safe for the gemstones
in your piece. Although wearing your silver jewellery often is
the best way to prevent tarnish from building up, regular cleanings
of all your silver items will prevent tarnish and keep your silver
bright and sparkling. Avoid using chemical baths as these can
damage your silver over time.
