The Nanaimo Chapter was the host club for this year's Island Challenge, which totaled 23 entries, all from Vancouver Island. The clubs participating were Victoria, Cowichan Valley, Nanaimo and Campbell River. We had a great variety of cars, the oldest being a 1907 Stanley Model EX. It was a pure pleasure to see it in motion.

Friday evening was the 'Meet and Greet" wine and cheese party, with very heavy praying to the sun gods for a better day on Saturday.

It must have worked, Saturday broke with sunny skies for the entire day of the tour, which was 158 km. of the most scenic back roads the Island has to offer, and it was a true challenge at that. The 'trouble truck', which followed all day protecting the rear, and displaying a very large sign that read "Caution Slow Moving Antique Cars Ahead", didn't have a single call for assistance.. For Saturday lunch, we stopped at the home of Geoff Hopps to partake of a Box Lunch, and to view all of the many farm implements, tractors and one-cylinder engines that were on display for all to enjoy. You really could spend the whole day there, thanks Geoff!    View  Pictures

The town of Chemainus was very accommodating, and closed off the main street for our cars to be lined up. While the ladies shopped, the guys watched, and the public enjoyed the beautiful display of pre-1927 cars.

We were back to Nanaimo for the Saturday evening banquet, with door prizes and dancing and some good old 'guys and gals 'visiting', and comparing notes of the day's events.

Sunday morning was the brunch at the ABC Restaurant followed by a garage tour of Andy Stull's many collectibles; while the ladies were treated to a very detailed lace-making demonstration by Melanie Morley. The group broke up by 1pm and all headed back to their homes and once again back to reality......that is until next year's Island Challenge, which will be hosted by the Cowichan Valley Club.

Until then, keep all of those old beauties running and we will see you again. Thanks very much for your support of this year's event!!
