Fine Day earned a great reputation as a warrior in the days of inter-tribal warfare and during the native uprising of 1885 was the war chief of his band. He had been a skilled hunter and trapper. As he grew older his reputation as a powerful shaman increased. When Maskwa demurred at imparting some of his supernatural experiences (for to speak of one's own shamanistic powers overmuch is to court disaster), he seriously said, "I am sure that old Fine-day is not afraid when he speaks of the spirit powers. He is brave in all things. And Fine-day did give the desired information. Cooperative, intelligent, wellversed in many phases of the culture.
