UBC Run

Comments:

SW Marine Dr (starting at 70th) through to NW Marine Dr (ending at West 4th) is a nice ride.  However it is somewhat  marred by the boring city traverse necessary to get there.

Living in Burnaby, I'll take the Sea Island Run to the Arthur Lang Bridge.  This means I bypass most of the icky bits of Vancouver's south slope.  And I'll often combine this with the Stanley Park run as an excuse to take Lions Gate back to #1 for a reasonable ride home.

Once on the route, it is pretty straightforward.    Don't miss the side road on SW Marine near the UBC Botanical Gardens.   This is a short stretch of old Marine Dr which dead ends but not before providing some nice turns and a pleasant rest stop area.

The best section is probably NW Marine Dr as it winds down to the shoreline.  I usually take this to 4th and then double back on Chancellor Blvd.  From there I'll turn left onto Wesbrook Mall and ultimately exit via University Blvd.  This is a bit circular but why not get all the roads in?

The UBC Botanical Gardens, Nitobe Memorial Gardens and Museum of Anthropology are all worth a look at some point.  A concert at the Chan Center isn't too shabby either.  And of course there are the beaches.  The most famous being clothing optional Wreck Beach along SW Marine, and Spanish Banks and Jericho along NW Marine.

If I'm heading to Stanley Park, I usually take Point Grey Rd (highlighted in yellow).  This has less stoplights than using 4th.

In total about 30km of enjoyable riding.
