Belcarra Park Run
Comments:
The Belcarra Park run starts at the east end of Port Moody and winds along Ioco Rd. The entire ride is sufficiently short that I usually hit all the highlights. The runs into Buntzen and Sasamat Lakes are interesting and given summertime weather provide a chance for a swim. Buntzen is probably one of the colder lakes in the Lowermainland but Sasamat is probably one of the warmest. After Sasamat Lake you can take the old road into Belcarra or the left fork leading to a relatively new road through the park. Both roads end up in Belcarra and only a gate prevents it from being a "circle tour".
If you take the left fork be sure to try the road to the Hydro Power Generating Plant. Labelled "Private Property" it is too good to ignore. A short, twisty run down to sea level and ending at the front gate. Wave nicely, don't crash your bike or run anyone off the road and I'm sure they don't mind...
