BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: Diane Olthuis, in her short monograph about Johnson, documents as much of his varied experiences  in Alaska as she could. Much of his life was spent as a prospector and trapper, yet he was also a devoted and talented amateur photograph, some of whose work was published in various Alaska periodicals. According to Olthuis, " He sold his suitcase of photographs to the owner of the Jockey Club, Aletha Racine." His first camera was a glass plate camera, and in 1928 he bought a Graflex camera with which he photographed Alaska wildlife.
