Presentations ...
Presenter: Steve Speer (Graphic Designer) spoke about the color and B&W commercial printing process. It is not possible to create a continuous tone image on a printing press. We must rely on the reproduction of a halftone with creates a dot pattern which in turn, is interpreted by our eyes as a continuous tone image. Print examples were shown. Laurie Van Ness of Downey Film Systems also spoke about the commercial printing process and explained the services provided by Downey Film Systems and the current limitations of the range of colors that can be obtained and the frustrations of matching the halftone to the original photograph.
