Born 1934. Not dead yet.
On the 30th April 1999 I retired, after nearly 40 years, still
able, fit and willing, but of an age at which my contract said, "You have
to go!". And if you gotta go, you gotta go!!
For the prior
15 years or so, I had been teaching Adult Basic Education at Camosun College
in Victoria, BC, Canada. I worked on both campus' and at William Head
Institution,a Federal Penitentiary, where I taught for nine years. For the
first 23 years of my career in the "Ed. Biz" I taught a wide variety of subjects
in high schools in England and Canada, ranging from Physics, Physical Education,
Math, English, and almost all Industrial Education courses.
I left Clacton County High School, Essex, in 1952 and spent three years in the Royal Air Force as a radar technician and another three in 'civvy street' as an electronics technician (and I still don't really believe in solid state stuff - if it aint got a vacuum, it can't work!)
I first qualified to teach at the City of Leeds Teacher Training College
in 1960, where I majored in Physics and PE. After emigrating to Canada in
1966, I taught English, Math and General Science in secondary schools in
BC before embarking on a UBC programme which culminated in a double major
in Industrial Education (B.Ed.). I then specialised in teaching those courses
in high schools in BC. In 1979 I completed a degree of M.Ed. (Teaching) at
Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.
