Descendants of Joseph Metcalfe and Ann Taylor

The Metcalf surname means "meat calf" (a calf fattened in meadow land for food). Our Metcalf family came from the northeast part of Lincolnshire, England, mainly the Great Limber and Keelby area. Joseph Metcalf and Sarah Audiss had four children before they emigrated to Canada in 1851. They settled in Wellington County when Minto Township was opened up to settlers in 1854. Several children went west to Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Sarah (Wilkin) remained in Ontario, but one of her grandchildren, Rolston Wilkin(s), ended up in Alberta. Two of Joseph's nephews also came to Canada, went into the ministry and settled in the United States.
