Why run federally?

We have three other parties.  In the Pitt Meadows-Ridge-Mission riding we are represented by a member of the Bush wanna be party.  A member whose goal is to push his moral values on every citizen.

Alternatively we have the corrupt government of American ass kissers.  A party that can not tell right from wrong.  They look at tax increases as extra bribe money.

Of course we have the union party. A party whose goal is solve injustice by creating more power for workers against the evils of management.

Election Issues:

To have a parent smoke cigarettes in their car with their children inside is much more criminal than an adult smoking pot at some private party.  I have never smoked Marijuana in my life and think it is foolish for anyone to smoke pot.  I consider it quite inappropriate for me to impose my values on those who choose to smoke Marijuana or for me to tell others what god to worship or what language to speak or what to wear.  Individuals should have the freedom to make their own choices in life so long as that choice does not impose on the freedom of another.

Prohibition Laws:

Governments should NOT impose moral values on citizens.  Freedom is compromised when governments enforce prohibition laws.  If a citizen’s values includes choosing to use or do something that does not infringe on the rights of another, they should have the freedom to do so.  If someone wishes to take certain vitamins, smoke cigarettes or pot, drink alcohol, Marry a same sex partner, have an abortion, get a tattoo, or worship their god--Canadian Laws should protect their rights to do so.

Government should protect the rights of individuals to not be negatively impacted by those who choose alternative choices.  For example: protect the citizen’s right to smoke but protect others (including children) from second hand smoke.  The right to drink alcohol has been given back but some say laws against drinking driving are weak.  The right to smoke pot should be upheld but education and controls for youth should be enforced to protect immature choices.

Cost to society should not be a justification of imposing moral views.  The government allows insecticides to be sprayed, cars to pollute the environment, and people to eat fat fast food amongst others.  These cost society.  Does alcohol cost society more and justify prohibition?  To enforce prohibition laws on the basis of cost to society is not right.  It would be better to make user pay such as is done with alcohol and cigarettes.

Poverty and World aid:

If you have a drug addiction problem what do you do?  Treat the addict?  Yes, but the long term solution is to deal with the source of the problem—what causes the addiction.  Resources are best used to prevent addiction.

If you have a wife beater.  Punish and treat with counseling is a start but dealing with offspring and peers learning the behaviour will eliminate the problem.

Polio has not been eliminated by treating the victims but by eliminating the source.

Poverty can be helped by giving food, but working on the cause will eliminate the problem.  Providing food can be more enabling than solving.

Poverty is the result of too many people seeking limited resources.  A family of 8 can not live on the resources of 1 acre.  That family should be able to fairly trade goods in a free market.  Countries need to stop subsidizing their goods and encourage fair trade laws.

Labour Unions:

“A fair wage for a fair days work”!  In reality distribution of wealth and wages paid is not very equitable.

Union employees get more money if their company can pass on the increases to consumers and competitive companies pay their employees little.

Unions were needed when farming efficiencies needed little labour and industrialization could only employ few displaced farmers.  Factories set the standards.  Unions gained power when skills were in demand.

Governments should replace union/management power struggles by creating higher minimum wages, severance protection, and legislation to protect worker that is consistent for all workers.  All wages should be determined by the skill--not the powers of supply and demand.

 Crime:

People should be free to walk the street, free from fear.  Victims should have more rights than those who violate individual freedoms.

Those who violate individual freedoms should face consequences that must place protecting victims first.

Nationalism:

Quebec separation?  If they choose (which I doubt)-- it is their choice.  This is Not an issue for us in BC.   We may not like it, but that does not give us the right to decide what other should live.

Farm Aid/Corporate Tax breaks:

Every farm disaster has the government giving farm aid.  If a farm can not afford it’s own insurance it maybe should not be in operation.  If a company can not produce a product with a profit maybe it should not be in business.  Pay film producers to film here?  Pay the unemployed to sweep the streets?  Tax dollars should be used properly or given back.  Too many billions of dollars are wasted on make work programs or helping the inefficient.

The News: September 13, 2005

Editorial

It seems every second week the news is reporting on the busting of some grow op or drug operation.  Houses are destroyed, people arrested, the odd murder, illegal money, use of police and court time all come into play.  Why do we have all these problems?—because the government is attempting to control the moral behaviour of the public.

In the 1930’s they tried to control use of alcohol. So how did making it illegal protect the public?  It created drug wars (remember the old Elliott Ness movies), filled prisons, and wasted tax dollars –all in the name of public morality.

Prohibition did not work then and does not work now.

Prohibition Laws telling people what they can consume or use are contrary to the freedom we have fought many wars for.  Citizens should be able to choose their own TV shows, Diets, religion, type of partner, drug or anything they wish as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others.

Laws should protect people from others infringing on their rights-- not forcing moral behaviours.  For instance laws to stop drinking driving or theft.  Government should help educate people to make right choices.  It should tax drugs (like cigarettes and alcohol) to help pay for encouraging right or informed choices.

When you make a drug illegal, it is very difficult to control its use.  Cigarettes are legal and controlled.  I would say that a child has more difficulty getting cigarettes than most illegal drugs—so what does the illegal label do?  It certainly does not control use.

My personal moral values?   I would consider a couple of Christians driving their children to Church and smoking cigarettes to be a much worse crime than two adults choosing to go to a party to smoke a joint.

While I have never smoked Marijuana or cigarettes, I do not think my values should be forced on others.

 Speach:

I am a conservative.  I am a businessman.  I support much of the conservative view on economics.

I do not support the conservative party because the moral socialist have taken over the party.  A moral Socialist is where a moral value is force by legislation on everyone.

For instance, Gay marriage or Woman’s control of their body.  Moral values that moral socialist think legislation should control free choice.

In the 30’s moral socialist, passed prohibition laws to control alcohol use.   It created so much crime waste of resources but did nothing to stop the use.  It just never worked!

We now have the same type of prohibition laws against drugs.  Having not learned from history, we have millions wasted on efforts to control use and have created a large criminal culture in society.

What does the conservative party want to do?  Punish more.  Spend more on police and more on jails.

I was for 30 years a teacher, if everytime a student did something wrong is class I doled out punishment, I would have done little teaching.  If you as a parent punished your child for every wrong your child would learn only to hate.  You as a teacher and parent must guide a child.

Some problems:  Everyone here knows you can not drink with .08 alcohol or more and we have lots of testing instruments being developed.  How about drugs?  If there a limit of what you can or can not

No! Can not make a law saying so much drugs use is ok if that drug is illegal.

Two adults going to party and use some pot!  Is that even anyones business?  My dad drove us to church smoking cigarettes.  That is a crime!  Laws should protect innocent not determine values.  Keep government out of the bedroom.

We need laws to protect innocent not impose values.

Any of the big 3 elected will make no difference.  Support for me will get say you want rational solutions not band aids irrational waste.
