Pastry Mix
Ingredients:-
2 cups all-vegetable shortening.
6 cups sifted flour.
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
Method:-
Cut shortening in to flour and salt until mixture is coarse as corn meal with pea-sized lumps of shortening. Store in a closed can at room temperature. As needed, use for 1 or 2 crust pies, by adding cold water.
Here is another version
that you can make up and store in the fridge to use
whenever you need it. It could probably be cut in half
to make fewer pies.:-
Ingredients:-
8 cups flour
2 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 1/2 cups shortening
Method:-
Mix flour and salt; blend in shortening with pastry blender
or use 2 knives. Blend till mixture is consistency of
coarse meal.
To make 1 8-inch pie crust, use 1 to 1 1/2 cups of
mixture and about 2 tablespoonfuls of ice water.
This recipe makes about 10 pie crusts.
