Italian Bread Sticks
These are delicious served with pasta dishes, salads and soups.
Ingredients:-
3/4 cup warm water (not hot, about 110ºF to 115ºF)
1 package active dry yeast
2-1/2 cups Basic Baking Mix
1/4 cup butter, melted
Method:-
Preheat oven to 425ºF.
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Mix in Baking Mix; beat vigorously.
Turn dough onto a well floured surface. Knead until smooth, about 20 times.
Divide dough into 16 equal parts. Roll each piece between your hands into pencil-like strips, 8-inches long.
Spread part of butter in a 13x9-1/2x2-inch rectangular pan. Put dough strips in pan. Brush with remaining butter.
Sprinkle with desired topping:- caraway seeds, celery seeds, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, galic salt or granulated garlic mixed with a little salt.
Cover with a cloth and let rise in a warm place (85ºF) until light, about 1 hour.
(If kitchen is cool, place pan on a rack over a bowl of hot water and cover completely with a towel).
Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Turn oven off. Allow bread sticks to remain in oven 15 minutes more to crisp.
