Harebell Set for 3 month old Baby.
MATERIALS:
The charming and quickly knitted "Harebell" stitch makes this a perfect gift. Use Baby Yarn. You will need:- 4 (25g) balls. Two 3 mm and two 3-1/4 mm knitting needles or whichever needles you require to produce the tension given below. You will also need a length of ribbon 1/4-inch wide. Length of ribbon 1/2-inch wide. 1 button.
TENSION:- 8 sts and 10 rows = 1 inch with 3-1/4 mm needles in stocking stitch.
PATTERN:-
1st row:- (right side facing). K1. Purl to last st. K1.
2nd row:- K2. * Wind yarn around needle 3 times. K1. Repeat from * to end of row.
3rd row:- K1. * Drop off needle all stitches wound around needle. P1. Repeat from * to last st. K1.
4th row:- K 1. * P 3tog. Knit into front of next st as usual but leave it on left hand needle. Bring yarn to front of work and purl into front of same st but still leave it on left hand needle. Take yarn to back of work and knit into front of same st. again. Slip st off left hand needle. (This increases 2 sts in 1 st to make up for the 2 sts decreased by the P 3tog. The working of a st in this manner will be termed "(K1.P1.K1) in next st." throughout). Repeat from * to last st. K1.
5th row:- K1. Purl to last st. K1.
6th row:- K1. *(K1.P1.K1.) in next st. P 3tog. Repeat from * to last st. K1.
These 6 rows complete one pattern.
THE JACKET
BACK: With 3-1/4 mm cast on 86 sts. loosely.
Work 5 complete patterns, the 1st to 5th rows inclusive of next pattern. Work now measures approx. 6-1/2 inches from beginning.
Next row:- K2. * K 3tog. K5. Repeat from * to last 4 sts. K 2tog. K2. (65 sts on needle).
Change to 3 mm needles and proceed:-
**1st row:- K2. *P1. K1. Repeat from * to last st. K1.
2nd row:- K1. *P1. K1. Repeat from * to end of row.
3rd row:- (eyelets for ribbon). K2. *Wl.fwd. K2tog. Repeat from * to last st. K1.
REPEAT 2nd row once, then 1st and 2nd rows once.**
To shape armholes: Keeping continuity of ribbing, cast off 2 sts beginning next 2 rows.
Continue even in ribbing until armhole measures 3-1/2 inches from first shaping.
To shape shoulders:- Keeping continuity of ribbing, cast off 19 sts beginning next 2 rows.
Cast off remaining 23 sts in ribbing.
LEFT FRONT:- With 3-1/4 mm needles cast on 46 sts. loosely.
Work 5 complete patterns, then 1st to 5th rows inclusive of next pattern.
Next row:- K2. *K3tog. K5. Repeat from * to last sts. K2tog. K2. (35 sts on needle).
Change to 3 mm needles and work from ** to ** as given for back.
To shape armhole; Keeping continuity of ribbing, cast off 2 sts beginning next row for armhole, then rib 5 rows even, ending at armhole edge.
To shape neck; Rib to last 5 sts. P 3tog. K2. (neck edge). Rib 3 rows even.
Repeat last 4 rows to 19 sts on needle.
Continue even until armhole measures same as Back to shoulders. Cast off in ribbing.
RIGHT FRONT:- With 3-1/4 mm needles cast on 46 sts loosely and work exactly as given for Left Front to 35 sts on needle.
Change to 3 mm needles.
Work from ** to ** as given for Back, then rib 1 more row.
To shape armhole; Keeping continuity of ribbing, cast off 2 sts beginning next row for armhole, the rib 4 rows even, ending at front edge.
To shape neck; K2. P 3tog. Rib to end of row. Rib 3 rows even.
Repeat last 4 rows to 19 sts on needle.
Continue even until armhole measures same as Back to shoulders. Cast off in ribbing.
SLEEVES:- With 3 mm needles cast on 30 sts, loosely.
1st row:- *K1. P1. repeat from * to last 2 sts. K2. Repeat this row of (K1.P1) ribbing for 11 rows in all.
Change to 3-1/4 mm needles.
12th row:- K1. *P1. (K1.P1.K1.) in next st. Repeat from * to last st. K1. (58 sts on needle).
13th row:- K1. Purl to last st. K1.
14th row:- As 6th pattern row.
Beginning with 1st pattern row, continue even in pattern until sleeve measures approx 5-1/2 inches from beginning, ending with 3rd pattern row.
To shape sleeve cap:-
1st row:- K1. P3tog. P1. Repeat from * 4th pattern row to last 5 sts. P3tog. P1. K1.
2nd row:- K3tog. Purl to last 3 sts K3tog.
3rd row:- K1. P1. P3tog. Repeat from * 6th pattern row to last 5 sts. P1. p3tog. K1.
4th row:- K3tog. Purl to last 3 sts K3tog.
5th and 6th rows:- as 2nd and 3rd pattern rows.
Repeat these 6 rows once, then 1st to 4th rows inclusive. (10 sts on needle) Cast off.
TO MAKE UP:- Sew side, shoulder and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew button on Left Front to correspond to the eyelet at edge of Right Front. This eyelet will serve as the buttonhole. Thread 1/2-inch ribbon through remaining eyelets at waist.
THE BONNET
Beginning at face edge, with 3mm needles cast on 78 sts.
Work 12 rows (K1. P1.) ribbing.
Change to 3-1/4mm needles.
Work 3 complete patterns, then 1st row of next pattern. Work should now measure approx 4-1.2 inches from beginning.
Next row:- Cast off 24 sts loosely. Knit to last 23 sts. Cast off those 23 sts, loosely.
Break yarn.
Change to 3mm needles.
With right side of work facing, join yarn to center 31 sts and then proceed:-
1st row:- K2. *P1. K1. Repeat from * to last st K1.
2nd row:- K1. *P1. K1. repeat from * to end of row.
Repeat 1st and 2nd rows 3 more times.
9th row:- K2. P3tog. Rib to last 5 sts. P3tog. K2.
Rib 5 rows even.
Repeat these last 6 rows to 7 sts on needle, ending with 9th row.
Next row:- (K1.P1.) 3 times K1.
Next row:- K2. P3tog. K2.
Next row:- (K1. P1.) twice. K1. Cast off.
Sew side edges of this "V" shaped back to cast-off sts of Harebell section.
To make neckband:- With right side of work facing, join yarn at left front corner and working along lower edge, with 3mm needles pick up and knit 54 sts. Knit 1 row. Purl 1 row. Cast off loosely. Make ribbon rosettes and sew to bonnet.
THE BOOTEES
With 3-1/4 mm needles cast on 34 sts.
Work 4 rows (K1. P1.) ribbing, then 2 complete patterns.
Next row:- Knit.
Next row:- (eyelets for ribbon). K1. P1. *wrn P2tog. repeat from * to last 2 sts. wrn P1. K1. (35 sts on needle).
Change to 3 mm needles and proceed:-
To make foot:- K2. (P1.K1.) 10 times. K1. Turn.
Next row:- K1. (P1.K1) 5 times. Turn
Working on these center 11 sts, continue:-
1st row:- K2. *P1. K1. Repeat from * to last st. K1.
2nd row:- K1. *P1. K1. Repeat from * to end of row.
Repeat these 2 rows of (K1.P1.) ribbing fro 21 rows in all for toe flap, ending with 1st row.
Next row: With right side of work facing, pick up and knit 14 sts along side of toe flap. (K1.P1.) 5 times, K2, across remaining 12 sts.
Next row: (K1.P1.) 18 times. K1. Pick up and purl 14 sts along other side of toe flap. (P1.K1.) 6 times across remaining 12 sts. (63 sts on needle).
Proceed:-
Work 12 rows (K1.P1.) ribbing, ending with 2nd row.
13th row: K2. P3tog. (K1.P1.)11 times. K1. P3tog. K1. (P1.K1.) 11 times. P3tog. K2.
14th row: K1. *P1. K1. Repeat from * to end of row.
15th row: K2. P3tog. (K1.P1) 9 times. K1. P3tog.K1. P3tog. K1. (P1.K1.) 9 times. P3tog. K2.
16th row: As 14th row.
17th row: K2. P3tog. (K1.P1.) 7 times. K1. P3tog. K1. P3tog. K1. (P1.K1) 7 times. P3tog. K2. Cast off in ribbing.
Sew back and sole seam. Thread ribbon through eyelets at ankle.
