Dutch Apple Pie
Known also as Schnitz Pie, because years ago it was made with dried apple slices or"schnitz". You could add a touch of cinnamon to the crumb mixture if you like.
Instructions:-
Preheat oven to 425ºF.
Cream:-
1/3 cup butter
Blend in until crumbly:-
1-1/4 cups Basic Baking Mix
With a fork blend in 1 to 2 tablespoons water. Roll out on a lightly floured surface and line a 9-inch pie plate. Trim edge and flute.
Cream together:-
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup lightly packed brown sugar
Blend in until crumbly:-
1-1/4 cups Basic Baking Mix
Set aside.
Arrange attractively in the pie shell:-
4 cups peeled apple quarters
Beat together, with a beater, until smooth:-
1/2 cup Basic Baking Mix
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2/3 cup thick dairy sour cream.
Pour over apples.
Sprinkle with crumbs.
Bake in preheated 425ºF oven for 20 minutes, then reduce heat to 350ºF and continue baking for 35 to 40 minutes longer.
Serve warm.
Makes 6 to 8 servings.
