Crocheted Shell Set for 6 month old Baby.
MATERIALS:-
Here is an easy to crochet trio of baby garments. a circular yoke with button closing enhances the shell stitch pattern.
Be sure to use Baby Yarn ( I use Baby Sayelle). You will need:- 5 (25 g) balls for the set. If made separately the jacket requires 4 balls, bonnet 1 ball, bootees 1 ball. One 2.00mm aluminum crochet hook OR whichever hook you require to produce the tension given belwo. 5 buttons. Length of ribbon.
TENSION:- 3 shells = 2-1/4 inches. 3 rows = 1 inch.
THE JACKET:-
Yoke:- Beginning at neck with double wool Ch 52 sts. firmly to measure 8-1/2 inches. Continuing with single wool proceed:-
1st row:- 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each of next 2 ch. * 2 sc in next ch (this increases 1 st.) 1 sc in each of next 3 ch. Repeat from * to end of row. Ch 6. Turn (The ch 6 will form buttonhole when working next row.).
2nd row:- 1 dc in each sc of previous row. Ch 1. Turn. (63 dc in row).
3rd row:- 1 sc in each of 1st 3 dc. * 2 sc in next dc. 1 sc in each of next 3 dc. Repeat from * to end of row. Ch 6. Turn.
4th row:- As 2nd row. (78 dc in row).
5th row:- 1 sc in each of 1st 3 dc. * 2 sc in next dc. 1 sc in each of next 4 dc. Repeat from * to end of row. Ch 6. Turn.
6th row:- As 2nd row. (93 dc in row).
7th row:- As 5th row.
8th row:- As 2nd row. (111 dc in row).
9th row:- 1 sc in each of 1st 2 dc. * 2 sc in next dc. 1 sc in each of next 5 dc. Repeat from * to last st. 2 sc in last dc. ch 6. Turn.
10th row:- As 2nd row. (130 dc in row).
11th row:- 1 sc in each dc. ch 3 . Turn.
With wrong side of work facing proceed:-
BODY:
1 dc in 1st sc. Ch 2. 2 dc in same sc. * Ch 1. Miss 2 sc. (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next sc. {this makes a shell). Miss 1 sc. Shell in next sc.* Repeat from * to * twice. (miss 2 sc. Shell in next sc) 11 times. repeat from * to * 6 times. (Miss 2 sc. Shell in next sc) 11 times. repeat from * to * 3 times. Miss 2 sc. Shell in last sc. Turn. (48 Shells in row).
Next row:- Ss to ch 2 space of 1st shell. Ch 3. (1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in this space. *Ch 1. (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch 2 space of next shell. Repeat from * to end of row. Turn.
Repeat last row 3 times. Proceed:-
Work 8 shells. Miss next 8 shells for Left sleeve. Work next 16 Shells. Miss next 8 Shells for Right sleeve. Work remaining 8 Shells. (32 Shells in row).
Work 16 rows even in shell pattern. Fasten off.
LEFT SLEEVE:-
With right side of work facing, join wool in the Ch 2 space of 8th shell from front edge. Ch 3. 1 dc in same space. Ch 1. work 1 shell over each of the 8 shells left for sleeve. Ch 1. 2 dc in the Ch 2 space of 1st shell of back. Ch 1. Jpin to Ch 3 at beginning of round with a Ss. Turn.
Next round:- ch 3. (1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in last Ch 1 space of previous round. Work remaining 8 shells of round. Ch 1. Join to Ch 3 at beginning of round with Ss. Turn. (9 shells in round).
Next round:- Ss to ch 2 space of 1st shell. ch 3. (1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in this space. Work remaining 8 shells of round. ch 1. Join to Ch 3 at beginning of round with Ss. Turn.
Repeat last round 11 times.
Next round:- * 1 sc in each of 1sr dc of next shell, the Ch 2 space and last dc of same shell. Repeat from * to end of round. Join with Ss. Ch 3. Turn (27 sc in round).
Next round:- 1 dc in each sc of previous round. Join with Ss. Ch 1. Turn.
Next round:- 1 sc in each dc of previous round. Join with Ss. Ch 3. Turn.
Repeat last 2 rounds once. Fasten off.
Work Right Sleeve to correspond to Left sleeve.
TO MAKE UP:- Press lightly. Sew buttons to correspond to button holes.
THE BONNET
Beginning at crown Ch 4 sts.
1st Round:- 18 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join to Ch 3 at beginning with Ss. Ch 1. Turn.
2nd Round:- 1 sc in each dc of previous round. Join with Ss. Ch 3. Turn.
3rd Round:- 2 dc in each sc of previous round. Join with Ss. Ch 1. Turn.
4th Round:- As 2nd Round.
5th Round:- 2 dc in 1st sc of previous round. *1 dc in next sc. 2dc in next sc. Repeat from * to last sc. 1 dc in last sc. Join with Ss. Ch 1. Turn.
6th Round:- As 2nd Round.
7th Round:- 1 dc in last sc of previous round. Ch 2. 2 dc in same st. * Ch 1. Miss 2 sc (2 dc. Ch 2. 2 dc.) in next sc. (This makes a shell). Repeat from * to end of round. Ch 1. Join with Ss. Turn. (18 Shells in round).
8th Round:- ss to Ch 2 space of 1st shell. Ch 3. (1 dc Ch 2. 2 dc) in this space. * Ch 1. (2 dc. Ch 2. 2dc) in Ch 2 space of next shell. Repeat from * to end of round. Ch 1. Join with Ss. Turn.
REPEAT 8th Round 5 times. Proceed:-
1st row:- Ss to Ch 2 space of 1 st shell. Ch 3. (1 dc, Ch 1, 2 dc) in this space. * Ch 1. (2 dc, Ch 2, 2 dc) in Ch 2 space of next shell. Repeat from * to end of row.Turn.
Repeat this row 5 times.
7th row:- 1 sc in each dc of each shell of previous row. Ch 3. Turn. (72 sc in row).
8th row:- 1 dc in each sc of previous row. Ch 1. Turn.
9th row:- 1 sc in each dc of previous row. Ch 3. Turn.
REPEAT 8th and 9th rows once, turning with Ch 1 instead of Ch 3.
The next part is a frill for front of bonnet, you may leave this off if you wish.
12th row:- Working through back of st only, work 1 sc in each sc of previous row. Ch 3. Turn.
13th row:- (1 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc) in 1st sc of previous row. Ch 1. Miss 3 sc. *(2 dc, 2 ch, 2 dc) in next sc. Ch 1. Miss 2 sc. Repeat from * to last st of row. (2 dc, 2 ch, 2dc) in last st. Turn.
REPEAT 1st row twice. Fasten off. Press lightly. Make ribbon rosettes and sew to bonnet with tying ribbon.
THE BOOTEES
Beginning with the sole Ch 19 sts.
1st round:- 5 dc in 4th ch from hook. 1 dc in each of next 14 ch. 10 dc in last ch. Working along other side of Ch, work 1 dc in each of next 14 Ch. 5 dc in last Ch. Join to Ch 3 at beginning of round with Ss. Ch 1. Turn. (48 dc in round).
2nd round:- 1 sc in each dc of previous round and missing the Ch 3 of previous round join to 1 st Sc with Ss. Ch 3. Turn.
3rd round:- 2 dc in each of 1st 5 sc. 1 dc in each of next 14 sc. 2 dc in each of next 10 sc. 1 dc in each of next 14 sc. 2 dc in each of last 5 sc. Join with Ss. Ch 1. Turn. (68 dc in round).
4th round:- 1 sc in each dc of previous round and missing the Ch 3 of previous round join to 1st sc with Ss. Ch 3. Turn.
5th round:- 1 dc in each sc of previous round. Join with Ss. Ch 1. Turn.
REPEAT 4th and 5th rounds once then 4th round once.
9th round:- 1 dc in each of 1st 28 sc. * (Woh. Draw up a loop in next sc. Woh and draw through 1st 2 loops on hook) twice. (3 loops on hook). Woh and draw through these 3 loops. (This dec 1st stitch). Repeat from * 5 times. 1 dc in each of remaining 28 sc. Join with Ss. Ch 1. Turn.
10th round:- 1 sc in each of the 1st 18 dc. Miss next 26 sts. (front of foot). 1 sc in each of last 18 dc of round and missing the Ch 3 of previous round, join to 1st sc with Ss. Ch 3. Turn.
11th round:- 1 dc in last sc of previous round. Ch 2. 2 dc in same st. * Ch1. Miss 3 sc (2 dc, Ch 2, 2 dc) in next sc. (This makes a shell). Repeat from * to end of round. Ch 1. Join with Ss. Turn. (9 shells in round).
12th round:- Ss to Ch 2 space of 1st shell. Ch 3. (1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in this space. * Ch 1. (2 dc, Ch 2, 2 dc) in Ch 2 space of next shell. Repeat from * to end of round. Ch 1. Join with Ss. Turn.
REPEAT 12th round 5 times. Fasten off. Press lightly. Sew up front seam. Thread ribbon through eyelets formed by 1st row of shell pattern at ankle.
