Abel, Frederick A.
Auxiliary Constable (RCMP)

On April 4, 1986 A/Constable Abel was on general duty patrol at the Lethbridge Detachment (Alberta) with Cpl. Bud Johanson. A call regarding a suspected impaired driver in a pick up truck was received. On their way to investigate this, their patrol car collided with the truck of the suspected impaired driver. The suspect vehicle was driving on the wrong side of the road. Both officers and the passengers of the truck were killed.
A/Constable Abel was 23 years old.

Balmer, Joseph Ernest "Sam"
Auxiliary Constable (RCMP): No Photo Available

On August 29th, 1992 A/Constable Balmer was on general duty patrol at the Williams Lake Detachment (British Columbia) with his regular member partner, Cst. Hrehirchuk. A call for police assistance was received from a location that was known for it's chronic domestic disputes. Three weeks earlier to this complaint a similar complaint was lodged where firearms were used. In the course of responding to this call, Cst. Hrehirchuk lost control of his vehicle and hit head-on with another northbound vehicle. A/Constable Balmer, riding in the passenger seat, died instantly from injuries sustained in the collision.
A/Cst. Balmer was 25 years old.

Evely, Glen
Auxiliary Constable (RCMP)
On November 13th, 2004 A/Cst. Glen Evely was on
general duty patrol at Vernon Detachment (British Columbia) with his regular
member partner, Cst. F. Grenier. A call came in about a drunk driver and
another police cruiser came upon the suspect vehicle - which had been reported stolen the previous day.
A high speed chase
ensued but was called off
and the suspect sped away through downtown
Vernon. When the suspect failed to stop at a red light, he slammed into
the
police cruiser containing Evely - which just happened to be going legally
through that intersection. A/Cst. Evely was pronounced dead at the
scene. Cst. Grenier, who was driving, was hospitalized with serious injuries.
A/Constable Evely was 39 years old.

Trentham, Arthur Stanley
Reserve Inspector (Vancouver Police)

On September 16th, 1963, R/Inspector Trentham was on duty directing traffic at the intersection of Windermere and Hastings (Vancouver, British Columbia). While standing in the middle of the intersection he was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene. Reserve Trentham was rushed to hospital but pronounced dead on arrival. The driver turned himself in to police later that evening and was charged with impaired driving and hit and run.
R/Inspector Trentham was 49 years old.
