S.E.T. - Stewardship, Education and Training - a place to begin

SET was developed because of a dissatisfaction with the traditional campaign approaches to stewardship, and a desire for a short course in stewardship education and training which would concentrate on belief, attitude, and the lifestyle of the steward. It's goals were:

To assist people to see stewardship in its wider context, that all that we have and all that we are, are individually and corporately GIVEN by God

To increase the awareness that we have a RESPONSIBILITY to care for all that has been given to us, which includes our immediate families, our church family, and all the resources that are within our sphere of influence.

To RECOGNIZE THE GIFTS, TALENTS, SKILLS that have been given to each of us for ministry inside the church, and outside the church in the larger community and the world.

To promote the understanding of stewardship as a WAY OF LIFE which is directly connected with our baptismal covenant.

To help people make DEFINITE COMMITMENTS in regard to their total ministry and resources on the basis of thanksgiving rather than on the basis of guilt and pity.

To assist congregations in EXAMINING CONGREGATIONAL LIFE on the basis of good stewardship practices.
