Stewardship Education and Training

I have been involved in stewardship education and development for over thirty years, in parishes, as well as from a diocesan and national perspective.  I have written quite a bit of material on Stewardship over the year, some of which has been written with others. Just click on the title above for a listing of some of them.

My journey

I have been  a parish priest in a number of parishes in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, as well as on the west coast in Langley-Surrey in the Diocese of New Westminster, and until my retirement, the rector of St. Philip's-By-The-Sea in Lantzville B.C. a beautiful seaside community on the outskirts of the City of Nanaimo B.C. on Vancouver Island.

I have have also held positions as the National Consultant in Funding and Membership Development for the Anglican Church of Canada, and as Program Co-ordinator for the Diocese of Saskatoon.

For a number of years I worked as a Addictions Counsellor and Community Service Consultant for the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission (AADAC) in the Calgary clinic and later in Red Deer. There, I became a manager of community Extention services for AADAC in Central Alberta. During that time I also was a part-time  news announcer on a local radio station in Red Deer - CKGY " A fresh breath of country air" ( a country music  station)

Paula has a social work degree and works as a social worker in child protection in the  Nanaimo area. We have been married for thirty-six years. We have one daughter, Megan, who is now married and has two sons, one eight year old and a six year old and a two year old daughter.  Megan graduated with  a B.A. from UBC in Vancouver.  She now works as a senior underwriter for a national insurance corporation and lives in the Vancouver area. We have a son, Michael, who has graduated with  a Bachelor of Science in Computer Technology from Malaspina University College in Nanaimo (Now the Vancouver Island University -  VIU) and works for a company that develops programs in internet security for large companies. He lives with his partner in Nanaimo.

I am now retired  from active parish work June 2002 and living in Nanaimo BC. Canada

You can check out some of Megan's recipes and meal planning on her web site Food and Whine, Adventures in making food for my toughest critics my family.

I have three other adult children from a previous marriage, Mary Anne is an optician with Iris Optical in Nanaimo. She lives with her husband, a son and two daughters in Nanaimo. My daughter Lori is with her partner and son in PEI. She owns and manages a cafe known as the "Route Three Eatery" in Vernon River PEI and just recently sold their other restaurant "The Thomas-Martin Cafe" in Charlottetown.  My daughter Carol Lynn is known as a musician and singer under the name of Carly "the Gypsy Butterfly". She now lives in Medicine Hat, Alberta and works as a health and wellness consultant in Life Force Hebal Healing Center and also teaches Yoga. Carol has two adult sons presently working in Alberta.

I have a total of nine grandchildren.

Mary Anne is a very talented artist. Along with her optical work, she has been studying toward a degree in fine arts at the Emily Carr Institute and now finishing the work on her degree at Vancouver Island University (VIU) in Nanaimo.   She has a new web site where she displays her Art.   You can access her site at:

Lori's cafe and restaurant has a page on Facebook known as The Route Three Eatery

Lori says "We make everything from scratch using local PEI products and all our sandwiches are made with our fresh baked bread.  We offer items such as smoked meat, pulled pork, burgers, ribs, fresh cut fries, salads, and artisanal pizza cooked in our wood-fired oven."

Carly  has developed her own web site called Carly The Gypsy Butterfly.  Please check it out.  You will find it truly inspirational.
