GSIR
Version 2.1
for BCLSs
The General Survey Instruction Rules (formerly, the "Regs")
are officially posted on the Association of BC Land Surveyors website,
at:
http://www.abcls.ca/?page_id=28
for the reference and use by BC Land Surveyors (or others?). The rules
(at the time of this posting) are available in PDF format only, and while PDF is
great for printing, it is not so good for just reading and not good at all
for searching.
As a gift to all BCLSs (hey - that's me!), I have compiled an HTML copy (.chm
file) of the current rules. This copy
- contains all the current rules (as posted)
- contains all specimen plans for
- the Land Act (see Part 9, Division 5)
- the Mineral Tenure Act (see Part 11, Division 4)
- the Petroleum and Natural Gas Act (see Part 12, Division 4)
- contains Explanatory Diagrams for the Mineral Tenure Act (see Part 11,
Appendices - not in force?)
- contains both sets of rules (as needed) for Hardcopy and Electronic
plans
- contains a full, detailed index and a full cross-reference to the first
version of the Rules (v.1). The cross-reference allows you to quickly
jump to any individual section.
- is fast and easy to use
- has full text search capabilities
- is free for the taking.
A few quick caveats, though ...
- the rules are in .CHM format, that's Windoze (see my
diatribe)! I think that the file "might"
be read by other operating systems (eg. Macintosh, Linux), but have not
investigated this.
- this copy of the rules is NOT the official one, although it is
textually accurate (to my knowledge). If in doubt, check the
Association's website and don't forget about any rule changes (none at the
time of this compilation, v2.1)!
- I will likely update the rules and repost them, as rule changes
occur, but am under no obligation to do so. For adventurous
types, the .CHM file can be "exploded" into individual files using the
Microsoft HTML Help Workshop (available free, at
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms669985.aspx), edited and
re-compiled with new changes, etc. Feel free to do so, if you like.
