Aspenview GoldensIf you want a watchdog, a Golden may not be the best choice for you. Although its size and initial barking may deter an intruder, the typical Golden is friendly to everyone, adaptable, and gentle. They would be more likely to show your intruder where the cookie jar is and where the toys are kept!

If you want a "one-man"
dog, or aren't home much, you probably shouldn't get a Golden.
Golden Retrievers were bred to be hunting companions. As a result,
they are very people-oriented and require a good deal of human
contact. You need to be able to spend time with your dog on a
daily basis and realize that they will not be happy alone in
a kennel. The Golden Retriever is a remarkable, versatile breed. In addition to the familiar use of a Hunting Dog, Goldens are used as Guide Dogs for the Blind, narcotics detection dogs, rescue dogs, service and therapy dogs, and have been widely used in the entertainment field as actors in movies and advertisements. The Golden Retriever was developed in Scotland in the late 19th century for the purpose of retrieving birds on land and in water. Its physical structure, combined with its willing, trainable nature has led to its use as an excellent obedience and tracking dog. The Golden Retriever is one of the most wonderful dogs in the world today, with its most popular role being that of a beloved family companion. |
