FrontPage Problems with Service.lck
As of 3 March 2007 I was able to publish with
FrontPage to my website at Shaw.ca, however, about 6-7 days later whenever I
tried to publish, the error message that FrontPage could not write to
Service.lck. On contacting Microsoft first and then Shaw.ca, I came to the
conclusion that the problem existed with Shaw as I was able to publish my full
web to a new username at Shaw. Once this was established it became apparent that
the problem was not with my computer and FrontPage but rather with the account
that was giving me problems at Shaw.
To correct the problem I found that by using the
following steps I was able to recreate the user account and publish
successfully.
-
Make sure your email from the account
has been down loaded as you will be deleting the user so all files will be
lost if not backed up or downloaded.
-
Log into the Customer Care at Shaw. This was
the top level user that had access to all email and user names. Link to
Customer Care at Shaw.ca
-
Once you have successfully logged in then
click on the link to Shaw Internet Services. This is the first item in the
list of services.
-
Find the User Id that is the one where you
are publishing your webpage. There are six links shown with each User and
the one that you will use is on the second line in the second position
called "Delete User". You will be asked to confirm that you want to delete
this user and are warned that all files will be lost. Respond with "YES"
-
Once you have deleted the user then log out
of your Customer Care and wait for about 15-20 minutes then log back in and
now repeat steps 1-3 and now select the link to "Click here to create a new
user" Use the same user name that you deleted previously.
-
When you are back to the "Manage email and
webspace page click on Manage Web Space and enable the FrontPage Extensions.
-
Log out of the Customer Care
-
Now try to use FrontPage to publish to the
newly created username that used to give the error message previously. When
I did this it worked fine. What I need is others to try the same process to
establish that this is the proper route.
If you are having the same problems and find this
either fails or works then please send me an
email. Make sure
you delete the user and not just the webspace as I tried that and know that it
will not clear the problem. However, according to the following email response,
it appears that this is a method provided that sufficient time is allowed for
the clearing of the problem.
The following response was received from
Stephanie who had the problem as well:
I
was able to get it working this morning. I did not have to delete the
user. Last night I deleted the webspace and left it deleted overnight
(hoping that Shaw would do a reset or something during the night).
This morning I created the webspace and then left it for an hour (Shaw
suggests 15 minutes). An hour later I enabled the FrontPage extensions to
the website and left it for a few hours. A couple of hours later, I
published to the website and it appeared to work.
