BROOKSBJUR KENNEL'S PHILOSOPHY & MANDATE

The best thing about a
man is his dog!
           -French Proverb

Brooksbjur Kennels have been in existence for 10 years!  It is a breeding partnership between Kendall Brooks/Douglas Bjur, and Dr. John & Barbara Hornsby.

We believe in breeding apsos that are sound both mentally and physically!!  The Breed Standard is the ruler by which we gauge our show specimens.  These objectives are obtained, by combining blood lines that meet our "selection criteria".   We feel that we have succeeded as we are currently showing 3rd and 4th generation pups from these combinations!

The following lines have been used to develop our breeding program:

  • Lindal's
  • Whisborne
  • Kai-La-Sha
  • Desiderata
  • Serens

  • With review of the above noted Kennels,  you will soon see that we have blended old English and Hamilton Lines to achieve our goals.

We do not gauge our breeding success based on "show results", rather on the quality of pets that we produce.  Genetics and Science play the largest role in breeding; showing is simply a hobby!

We breed for healthy apsos with sound temperaments!  Brooksbjur Apsos are raised on a "Natural" Diet, and as integrated members of our family.  We feel that Nutrition is a key factor in good health and sound structure.  Natural foods, vitamins, and enzymes are of utmost importance in breeding and raising our dogs, as we believe "you are what you eat"!

We are strong advocates of the National Club and feel that responsible Canadian breeders are Members of Lhasa Apso Canada!!!

Kendall has served as Secretary to the Club, and is now serving the Club in the capacity of Vice President.  Active involvement in the National Club promotes the Breed and broadens horizons.

Brooksbjur is a firm believer in promoting "Original" type in the Apso, and in sharing knowledge of the Breed with breeders and pet lovers alike.  We are active in Breed/Educational Seminars.
