The reason a dog has
so many friends is that
he wags his tail instead
of his tongue!

WHISBORNE LHASA APSOS

Whisborne Kennels was established in 1962 and is well known for producing Champions in different breeds.  Annika and her husband have worked with at least 10 different breeds over the years. Whisborne now breeds English Springer Spaniels and Apso´s with a great amount of success. The use of the classic English lines combined with the best from America has made their success possible in Scandinavia as well as with the exports to Canada and elsewhere.

Annika maintains that “ Our aim is to breed high-class, quality show dogs with typical character in combination with style, soundness and movement.”

Due to Annika´s judging appointments she is not able to show as much as before, but some of the offspring are with excellent people that keep the flag flying!

Brooksbjur Kennels is fortunate enough to be the recipient of some of those offspring!!

Whisborne breeds infrequently, and thus has a wait list for Apsos.  Brooksbjur Kennels waited 3 years for “Trouper” and feel it was a “treat” worth waiting for.

Annika  is an all breed judge,  and is kept very busy in more countries than I can count with this aspect of the dog world!!  Just recently, Annika was here in Canada to judge the Lhasa Apso Canada National Specialty.  The show was a success and I was very honored to host Annika at my home and “pick” her brain!!

Thank you Annika for entrusting Brooksbjur Kennels with your valued bloodlines; and we look forward to showing your new boy in the near future!!

Kai-La-Sha Lhasa Apsos

Catherine Marley is an M.D. graduate of Marquette University with a major in Zoology and Chemistry, and of New York Medical College.  She completed a residency in Otolaryngology and Maxillofacial Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center in New York.  After 10 years in private practice in New Jersey, she is now practising Emergency-Trauma at Hackensack Hospital in New Jersey.

She has been a breeder and exhibitor of Lhasa Apsos for over 25 years, and has published many articles on the Apso during that time.  She has given Judging Seminars in San Francisco, and for the AKC, in New York, as well as American Lhasa Apso Club seminars.

A student of Lhasa Apso history, Dr Marley has a particular interest in the original type of Apso as it was when first brought to the West, and as it still survives in small Tibetan refugee enclaves in the Himalayas today.  Her breeding has sought to preserve that original little rustic mountain dog for its unique heritage and qualities.  As its most distinctive feature is its unique head, Dr Marley has compiled an exhaustive web page on the Apso, and it can be found at:  www.lhasa-apso.org

Cathy’s experience and knowledge have been invaluable in Brooskbjur’s quest to breed “sound” Apsos.  We can never thank her enough!!  She has entrusted us with several outstanding specimens to compliment and “help” our breeding program!

Most recently, Cathy was here in Canada to Judge Sweepstakes at our National Specialty, and to present a Breed Seminar on the Apso Skull.  This seminar was a milestone for Lhasa Apso Canada, and was attended by Breeders and Judges alike to high critical acclaim!!

Arlene Miller, Desiderata Reg’d

Arlene acquired her first Lhasa Apso in 1969 and has exhibited in conformation and obedience since that time, breeding under the Desiderata prefix.  A Register of Merit breeder in both Canada and the United States, Arlene is a founding member and Past President of Lhasa Apso Canada, and a longtime member of ALAC.

She has conducted interviews with Daphne Hesketh-Williams (Verles), Georgia Roberts (Abbotsford) and Barbara Ratledge (Las-A-Rab), which have been featured in various publications.

Arlene was a student of Casey Gardiner’s School of Canine Science in the late 1970’s and, after completing the course, coordinated the Canine Studies program for several years at Capilano College in Vancouver.  She feels that Casey’s emphasis on structure, movement and genetics have been invaluable to her breeding program.

Arlene has been a valuable resource to many new comers to the breed!   Brooksbjur Kennels wish to acknowledge her contributions to our Kennel,  both with respect to bloodlines and the Apso anatomy,  in our ongoing quest to breed responsibly; to produce Quality and Sound Apsos!
