The Sphynx cat originated in the Canada near Toronto Ontario. It was born to 2 domestic haired cats in 1966. It was a natural mutation. These cats born in the Toronto area are some of only a few born around the world and are the foundations of the hairless cat breeds. Breeders in North America and in Europe have been breeding the hairless cats back to haired cats for more then 30 yrs to expand our gene pool so that we have a healthy foundation for our breed the Sphynx. With the help of these outcross breeding to the domestic cats it has helped us to have a very healthy and strong breed in our Sphynx cats. The Sphynx cats are not totally hairless cats but have a fine down over there body that give them the feeling f a fuzzy peach. They also have some small amount of hair aloud on there nose, feet and tails. They also feel very warm to the touch, it is thought by some people that they have a warmer body temperature but this is a common mistake they only feel warmer. The Sphynx cats come in almost all colors and patterns just like your domestic cats do. The reason for this it there colour pigment goes right down to the skin, and what few hairs that they have will also carry the same pigments. The only colors that will not show up in a Sphynx are the shaded patterns of cats such as the shaded silver. These cats have a unique personality they love to be loved all of the time and will even curl up under the covers with you at night when you go to bed. They get along with many different animals and even like small children as long as the other animals and children are nice to them. Just because these cats don't have hair it dose not mean that they are maitence free. Due to the lack of hair that would usually absorb the oils from there body these cats will need to be bathed regularly and have the nails cleaned from the oil and dirt that they collect form the litter box. This is usually an easy task as cats get used to this and there is no hair to dry so it is done quick. Some people who are allergic to cats can live with a Sphynx when they can't a normal cat due to the lack of fur, but not all people are this lucky. For the unlucky ones if they try living with a Sphynx and it doesn't stop the allergy you can try more frequent bathing or we would work with you to find a new home for your sphynx.
