Sphynx cats are not care free as one might think there are a few things that must be done on a regular basis to keep your Sphynx cat happy and healthy. Well I don't know about how happy it makes them but it has to be done.

Ears: As these cats have no guard hairs in front of the opening to there ears they get a lot of dirt in there ears so it is a good thing to just get a Q-tip and clean the inside of there ears every day or every other day to keep them free of dirt and dust.

Claws: As the cats don't have fur to absorb the oil from there skin if you expose there nails you will see that they get a dirt build up on the nails and this can easily be done daily with a baby wash cloth wiping the exposed claws.

Another thing that I suggest that be done is that you take extra care to keep there claws clipped as during play or scratching they can easily scratch themselves. By keeping them clipped it will stop them form hurting them selves and it is also easier on your furniture.

Bathing: It is a good idea to give your cat a bath on a regular basis just to get the excess oil off of there skin as if it is not absorbed by there fur it might rub off on your furniture or carpets. I usually feel that once a week for my cats is good. I use a baby shampoo to not harm there eyes when washing them. It sometimes takes more then one wash to get them clean, sometimes to help get them clean I use a washcloth to help get off the dirt, and be careful as when they are wet they can be very slippery. Don't be afraid to bath the cat as it is had many baths before coming to you and will get used to it as it continues and will be no trouble at all.

Home Temperature: One thing that is good to know is how warm to keep your house when the snow starts to fall. Since when our cats are cold they can't just go put on a sweater I recommend that it be 76degrees F. This is a comfortable temperature for them and will help prevent them from getting a cold. If you use Air Conditioning in the summer keep in mind if you set it too cool that they can get cold but if you want you can always train them to wear a sweater.

Plants: Another thing that you may want to think about when you are caring for the every day needs of your new little one is that many of the household plants are poisonous to your cat here is a link to a list of plants to look out for
