Well, what to
tell you? I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
I enjoy reading
historical fiction, surfing the net, genealogy, and studying languages
and earth-based religions.
My
favorite group is the Rolling Stones, and I also enjoy other "hippie"
bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and the Beatles.
Lest you think I'm a total dinosaur, I also like some of the newer
stuff like Linkin Park, Incubus, Nickelback, Metallica, and Red Hot
Chili Peppers.
I don't have much use for rap at all, sorry.
My favorite TV
show is Coronation Street, a British serial - NOT soap opera. I love
British humor like Monty Python, Blackadder, Keeping Up Appearances,
Absolutely Fabulous, etc.
I belong to
several (no, make that too
many) mailing lists on the Internet where all my interests are
discussed. Because of this, I have been able to make friends all over
the world, and have even been able to meet some of them in person.
Through
my genealogy efforts, I have also made contact with "long-lost"
cousins,
and gotten to meet some of them too.
I also enjoy
watching hockey on TV and cheering on the Edmonton Oilers - except when
they are playing the Los Angeles Kings, who have my cousin Kyle Calder among their players. Family loyalty
has to count for something!

- The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (commonly known as the Mormons) have,
as part of their mission, assembled a huge collection of
genealogical data. Because much of it is transcribed from old
handwritten records, and some of it is submitted by people who have
errors in their own data, keep in mind that what you find may not be
the "gospel truth" - but it is an excellent starting point if you want
to research your family history.
- Another great
genealogical site is Rootsweb,
where thousands of people have put up their family histories. Once
again, take anything you find with a grain of salt until you can get
documentation, but who knows, you may find a long-lost ancestor or
cousin.
- I know this
sounds incredibly geeky, but have you ever heard of distributed
computing? It involves harnessing the power of thousands of computers
all over the world to solve a complicated mathematical problem - I'm
currently part of distributed.net, which is looking for an encrypted
message (just to prove we can do it) and also an Optimal Golomb Ruler
(don't ask me what that is). If you're interested in joining in, click here or on
