The Total Solar Eclipse of 2002-12-04 in Australia
Background
My wife Blythe and I travelled to the Australian Outback to observe and photograph
the total solar eclipse on 2002-12-04. Our viewing site was near Koolymilka. With coordinates of
136°32' E. and 30°58' S., we were directly on the center line and enjoyed 29 seconds of totality
with the sun only 6° above the horizon. Sky conditions were perfect and we had a great view.
Photographs taken with a 0.10-m f/10.0 Meade Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and Kodachrome 64 slide film
(scanning and processing by Alan Dyer)
Short exposure showing the chromosphere
