(202421) 2005 UQ513 Precovery Images


This bright TNO was discovered in 2005 and reobserved during the 2006 and 2007 apparitions. The three-opposition orbit was quite uncertain for searching for images on archival plates from the 1990s. Fortunately, 2005 UQ513 was also predicted to be on NEAT scans from 2001 and 2002 when the uncertainty was smaller, and images were found on seven nights. Stacking of the individual scans from each night helped to show the object more clearly.

With an updated orbit from the 2001 and 2002 astrometry, additional images were found in DSS data from 1990-1992.

At the end of this page are the elements and residuals with the new data. The new orbit is much more accurate because the object has now been observed for 17 years instead of two years. 2005 UQ513 was numbered in December 2008.
