summer roseThe best thing about a new toy is that you get to play with it and find out tons and tons of new things about it. I'm trying to figure out the macro feature of my camera and took this picture of a rose I have in my front garden. I can't remember what it's called but as the bloom gets older, the petals turn a fuchsia colour. You can see the colour change starting on this bloom.

Spent another day weeding and moving bark mulch. Now I get to go to work tomorrow and relax.

I  invited one of my daughter's friends over today. They were both born on the same day, about 12 hours apart. Her mom and I even shared the hospital room during our stay. We met when we were just pregnant with the girls, so it's funny how our daughters ended up being born on the same day. Anyways, when I see those two girls together, I wonder about the validity of astrological signs. Those two girls are almost twins in their mannerisms. I don't know if it's age and they're going through the same things but it's strange. All I know is that I don't want them hanging out together when they're 16.  It's going to be t-r-o-u-b-l-e!

Happy LindenMy new camera is finally here! Yay! My youngest monkey was being a bit of a ham with it, trying to get me to take pictures of him. Of course I had to comply. He looks so old in this picture, but he's only 3 years old!  I took this picture last night where we had dinner at my parents' house for hubby's birthday.

Hubby is as many years to 40 as I am to 30.  I keep telling him that he's an old man - I don't think he's too impressed with it.  I took hubby out for drinks and we met up with a few friends. Ended up playing poker at another friend's house until 2:00 a.m.  So, that's what it feels like to have a social life!  Wasn't great when the kids woke up at 7:00 this morning but I guess that's what coffee is for.

00300031Here's the start to Crumpets.  It's slowly coming along and it's not a pattern to follow when you're feeling a bit tired.  I screwed up with my cabling and decided to blog rather than rip.  Far less frustrating that way.

I've spent my long weekend so far painting decks and weeding my garden. I told my dad that I'm tempted to buy a townhouse and pay strata fees at the moment. Far less work.

July 30, 2006 -------

Still without a "real" digital camera, I had hoped that the camera on my phone could catch this image. It didn't.  It kind of looks like some strange sea creature or a bad run in with Bubbalicious.  Instead, it's the first 7 rows of Crumpets for my daughter.  I'm using these beads that remind me of bubbles and tried to take the picture with a sink full of bubbles in the background. I sure hope our camera arrives soon as this is pretty sad.  I accomplished a picot edge cast on - kind of cool once you figure it out.

Hubby has taken the kids to the skateboard park and I'm left to wander the house aimlessly. It couldn't make me happier. After these past few days, the kids and I need a break from each other. Hubby has been working late and worked all day yesterday. He can survive an hour with the kids alone at the park.

With all this peace and quiet, I'm feeling a bit restless. I should go make muffins or something, considering it's cooled off. I would like to go for a run but my hip is really bothering me.  I think I need to see a chiropractor or massage therapist before I continue to train for my 10k run.

July 26, 2006 -------

Okay, I've had it.  Last night when I was driving home from work, the temperature on the side of the bank read 40ºC (104ºF).  If this heat wave could go anytime soon, it wouldn't be soon enough for me.

I just finished cleaning up a huge box of oatmeal off of the floor. My youngest decided to dump it all on the floor and then drop handfuls of it in front of the pedestal fan sitting in the kitchen. Do you know how far oatmeal travels when pushed by the air coming from a fan?  And the other two just sat there, watching it all.  GRRRRRR!

Man, I feel grumpy today. Maybe it's the heat or no coffee this morning but I'm on a short fuse.

Well, I should get dressed, get the kids slathered in sunscreen and maybe head to the beach or the pool. I'm now hearing my youngest pull all the pots and pans out of the cupboard. There's not much else to do except stay inside and to escape the heat.  I heard that the prediction with global warming, that Canada will be the next growing area (something like California is today).  I happen to like my four seasons, although I haven't seen much snow around here like I used to growing up.  And if global warming means summers like we're having right now, this sucks.  My igloo will never survive the summer.

July 21, 2006 -------

We've gone camping and back again.  What a great time we had! We spent three nights at Sun Mountain with hubby's work. It's a beautiful resort - amazing scenery, hiking and the rooms are gorgeous.  We then left for Pearygin Lake State Park, which was only about a 20 minute drive from the resort. The kids had a blast, the park was beautiful and it was so relaxing.  I have to admit, however, that coming home to a king sized bed, showers and clean laundry was even better.

I took my sister's digital camera with us, so once I get the pictures downloaded, I'll post some pics.

I got my hair cut today and cut off about 6 inches of hair.  It's now just below my shoulders and I think I like it.  Pretty much the same hair cut as before, just shorter.  It's so nice for the summer, especially considering it's almost 40 degrees outside.

It's my mom's birthday tomorrow.  What the hell am I going to get her?  My parents buy what they want, when they want it. They don't normally drop hints as to what they'd like for gifts, they don't really have hobbies and don't need anything. I'm tempted to buy a white shirt, get the kids to stamp their hands on it, and write "Nana's little helpers" on it.  She hates those kinds of gifts, but would keep it just because it's from her grandchildren.

I'm back to work on Monday - man, these two weeks have flown by.

July 9, 2006 -------

Holy crap, has it really been a month?

I just realized it's my MIL's birthday today. I know her darling baby boy forgot. I would try for the brownie points and give her a call, but it's too much effort as she's out of town right now.

I'm on holidays, I'm on holidays, yeah! And, no, I'm not going to Hawaii, but I needed to find a happy dance.  We are taking the kids camping.  We haven't gone camping in four years and, oh my god, is it ever lots of work to get ready for it. I sure miss the days when hubby and I would throw a whole bunch of junk in his ol' Honda Civic Friday evening and we'd go for the weekend.  Now, I have to start 5 days before we leave, just to make sure we're good to go.  The kids have been talking about camping for MONTHS so we really have to go.  We're heading to Lake Chelan area, so if you live down there, drop me a line. :)

I've finished the silk cami and ripped it out again. It was way, way, WAY too big. I started the ballet top from MagKnits, and now I'm thinking it's too small.  Grrrr!

I cashed in my airmiles to get a new digital camera. Maybe that will be incentive to keep up my blog? It's pretty boring with no pictures.

Summer has started and we're into day 10 of summer break. I haven't quite needed or wanted to kill the kids yet, although I have discovered a neat little trick called playdates.  If I throw a fourth kid into the mix, the fights miraculously stop.  I'm not sure how it all works, and heck, I'm not going to question it.  All I know is that I get relative peace and quiet.
