There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness".

Finally my oldest daughter got married in the summer and that's a good thing since she has been planning it for the past two years...almost daily, but a nagging thought in the back of my mind kept arising. "There goes a prime Saturday in summer when I can't go fishing!" After all, I was simply the father of the bride and along for the ride to pay a few bills as my daughter and wife were consumed with planning every detail of the wedding extravaganza. When I jokingly brought up about loosing a day of fishing, my wife sternly stared me down and pointed her finger saying, "don't you even dare think about it!" You know they mean business when they not only point their finger at you but they turn their wrist up and point that finger. Its like looking down the barrel of a rifle and I'm the deer in the headlights. It turned out great but I couldn't resist tying in a little fishing humour into the wedding ceremony. As I proudly walked my daughter down the isle and handed her to her anxious groom, I leaned forward and whispered, "can I go fishing now?" She laughed...stared through me and said "no". Oh ... another one in the making!

55 years later, the hair and the face are the same but the belly???
Sounds like an introduction at an A.A. meeting. Truth is, there is a lot of similarities. Both are self imposed addictions that can be costly, affect family life, often hanging around people of a similar kind and definitely a hard habit to control. One often ends up on day long 'benders' trying to satisfy that special urge, only to do it again the next day. While I make this a light-hearted analogy, I respect those individuals that have successfully met the challenges of any addiction. "Everything in moderation", my mom used to say. Too much of a good thing can be dangerous or unhealthy. The challenge is..."What is the balance?" I'm not at the point of hiding my fishing purchases or lying about my problem to family and friends, but I do admit this was my most prolific fishing season ever. It is all relative.

I was about 4 years old when this photo was taken at Trout Lake.
The Passion:
I don't golf, hunt, waste my money at the Casino, or other hobbies people seem to enjoy. Basically, I fish for Brook Trout and in the spring, Steelhead. Tie that in with an interest in photography and computers and you get... "Guidofisherman".
"Hi...my name is Guidofisherman and I'm a Fishaholic!"
