Over
the years, human beings have minimized the importance of smell,
since we tend to rely on it less for survival. However it
is our most powerful sense. The nose and its path to the olfactory
nerves is the only place on the body where the external environment
directly accesses the brain, and more specifically, the hypothalamus,
where there is a direct and immediate response. The hypothalamus
helps to maintain body temperature, water balance, sleep,
appetite, our emotions and desires, controls the sympathetic
and parasympathetic nervous systems and the pituitary gland,
hormone secretions, influences heartbeat, and the contraction
and relaxation of blood vessel walls.
During inhalation,
molecules of essential oils are also distributed to the body
via the alveoli in the lungs, sending oxygenated blood throughout
the body.
As a topical application,
essential oils are easily absorbed by the body due to their
very small molecular structure, and there again, are transported
throughout the body via the bloodstream, where they begin
to exert their balancing and healing effect.
"I
have been a cusotmer of Amphoria Aromatherapy for almost five
years. Even though there are a lot of businesses offering
similar services and products in this very competitive market
in the Victoria area, I have never even considered going somewhere
else for these services since I started coming to Amphoria.
Amphoria also provides a wide range of personal care products
of the best quality which are individually made to suit my
personal needs and preferences."
