Human rights abuses continue in this world, but we know that our work makes a difference. Amnesty International hears from many prisoners who have been released. The following quotation is one such example:

Amnesty International mobilizes public pressure. We contact politicians and government officials in countries where human rights abuses are occurring. We send a clear message that people around the world oppose the violation of human rights abuses.

Amnesty's headquarters is in London, England, where the research department investigates reported cases of human rights abuses.

Amnesty groups worldwide take action, based on the information issued from London. Local groups write letters and create publicity to gain justice for prisoners of conscience, for political prisoners, and for those who may suffer torture, or who may have been "disappeared" or the subject of political killings.
