Basically a drummer-for-hire, Eric has never seemed
to be in one place for very long. His longest stint was with KISS
at 5 years. Eric was a lifelong KISS fan and came ino the group knowing
the majority of the drum parts to the band's songs.
Initially, Eric was brought to the band through
his association with Paul Stanley; Eric toured with Paul during his 1989
club tour. When Eric Carr was first diagnosed with heart problems,
Singer stepped in to record God Gave Rock 'n Roll To You II for
the film Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey. As Carr's illness
worsened, Singer became a permanent member of the band and made his debut
on the 1992 album, Revenge. Singer also recorded the album
Carnival of Souls which would not see
release until 1997. Still, Eric demonstrated his underestimated vocal
talents on the 1996 album MTV Unplugged, where he belted out a great version
of Nothin' To Lose.
Unfortunately, with the return of original members
Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, Eric's services were no longer needed and
he was given his pink slip from KISS. Still, he has contributed his
talent to the Queen tribute album, Dragon Attack, the Ace Frehley truibute
album, Return of The Comet, and ESP (Eric Singer Project) with Bruce Kulick
and John Corabi of Union and Karl Cochran. Eric Singer is by no means
a musician who struck gold by joining KISS. His pre-KISS resume includes
appearances on the Black Sabbath albums Seventh Star and The Eternal Idol,
Alice Cooper's touring band, Badlands with Jake E. Lee (ex-Ozzy Osbourne
band guitarist) and Ray Gillen (ex-Black Sabbath vocalist). With
talent like this collaborating, Eric can boast an impressive string of
job references.
UPDATE: As of March 2001, Eric Singer
is BACK in KISS to fill in for Peter Criss during the Australian
and Japanese legs of the band's Farewell Tour. There has been no
official word on whether or not Eric will continue drumming for the band
should the tour continue past Australia and Japan.
