Connections Retires Fall 2006It is with great sadness that Connections announces their retirement. With none of us living in the same city, it has become very difficult for the ladies of Connections to make the connection. We wish to thank all our families, chorus, friends and fans for their unwavering love and support on our magical journey. We are grateful for our moments in the spotlight. We will always hold you all dear to our hearts.
Our Mission (was)To perfect our Barbershop Harmonies through competition and learning. To perpetuate our joy of A cappella singing though performances and teaching Who Were We?We were a performing Registered Quartet with Sweet Adelines International (SAI), who specialize in Barbershop Harmony. Over the past twenty-five years our members have sung in eleven different choruses and too many other quartets in two regions. Given our history of competition, you will have a hard time keeping us off centre stage! In 1987, Donna (Lead) and her quartet Sound Tradition represented our Region (Region 26, the only all Canadian Region) at International Competition in Hawaii. Leslie (Baritone) performed and competed with her quartet S.M.A.K. from 1997 - 2000. Maya (Bass) and Mary (Tenor) went to the 1998 Regional Competition in Calgary, AB with their quartet Brio. When Maya moved out of province, Mary took up with a new quartet Spirit, who competed in Edmonton in 2002. Spirit then changed Leads and in the spring of 2003 Donna and Mary went to the Regional Competition in Surrey, BC. It took the formation and chartering of the new SAI chorus, Alberta Heartland Chorus (St. Albert), to finally bring us together. At our first SAI Regional Competition in Spring of 2005 Connections placed a surprising third. That fall, Connections entered for their first time the Northern Harmony A cappella Competition. This time Connections really surprised themselves and won. At our last SAI Regional Competition in Edmonton, spring of 2006, Connections was very pleased with their fifth place finish. There is some amazing talent out there. We had a great time singing and best of all got to sing with good friends! We had a wonderful run. We only wish it could have lasted longer.
