Diabetes

Diabetes is a serious health problem, affecting nearly 16 million Americans and over 2 million Canadians. Half of them don't even know they have it. And - there is no cure.

Your body needs energy for everything you do, from running to sleeping. Diabetes affects the way your body turns food into energy. Normally, your body converts sugars, starches and other foods you eat into fuel. In diabetes, something goes wrong with this process. This affects all parts of the body. It can lead to blindness, heart disease, and kidney failure, nerve and blood vessel damage.

In the five minutes it will take you to read this, six people in the United States will learn they have diabetes. This is almost 2,000 people a day. It is estimated that almost 20% of adults over age 55 have diabetes. And, with its complications, diabetes is truly one of the worst diseases of our time.

How the Order of the Amaranth helps fight diabetes.

In 1979, the Amaranth Diabetes Foundation was formally adopted and diabetes became the primary philanthropic project through which the Order of the Amaranth works for the betterment of mankind. The Order of the Amaranth has mobilized the efforts of its membership to prevent and cure diabetes and to help improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Thanks to the dedicated support of our members worldwide, we have raised more than $9.5 million in the fight against diabetes.

Funds raised by the Order of the Amaranth go directly to diabetes research through the Amaranth Diabetes Foundation. There are no administrative fees applied to funds donated to either the Amaranth Diabetes Foundation or to the foundations in jurisdictions outside of the US. (In British Columbia funds are directed to BC Diabetes) Canadian Diabetes The American Diabetes Association reviews and selects the research scientists to be funded. Through this system, contributors are assured that their gifts support the most important diabetes research and that the research results are shared throughout the scientific community.

A Message from the President

Amaranth Diabetes Foundation Board of Directors

Amaranth Diabetes Foundation

Board of Directors

Since the decision in 1979 to make diabetes research our sole philanthropic venture, the members of the Order of the Amaranth have had the pleasure of working with the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation. Raising funds together for grants to support the work of researchers, we will inevitably find a cure for this insidious disease that affects millions of lives each year.

The members of the Amaranth Diabetes Foundation, Inc. have pledged themselves to work tirelessly to rid the world of diabetes.

Your assistance is greatly needed. Bequests, memorials and stock donations are welcome additions to our fundraising efforts. Many companies will also match the amount, as we are a 501(c)3 organization. As such, contributions are eligible as tax deductions.

With the ever-growing epidemic of diabetes, we appreciate the efforts of the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation to ensure that the funds being raised are allocated to support desperately needed research.

The Amaranth Diabetes Foundation, Inc. is honoured to be a part of the team who we are certain will eradicate this disease. We urge you to join us in the fight. Together, we will achieve our goal.
