    Soap Life: The Docu-film

There has been a lot of buzz about the demise of soap operas, but a new documentary just might bring the sad reality into the same world as Brad Pitt, Steven Spielberg and other big time Hollywood names! Called Soap Life, the docu-film is about the changes taking place in the world of daytime television, and with over 70 interviews featuring fans, stars, producers, directors, writers, bloggers and fan club leaders, it could show the world what's really happening in daytime.

"The wife of our executive producer, John Grossman, who owns the production company NYPS, is a big fan of GENERAL HOSPITAL, and her whole thing was, 'You have the ability, so let's do something to save the soaps,'" explains producer Matthew D'Amato of how it all began. "We started doing research, and we sat down with a few actors, producers and directors, and said, 'Is this is a good idea? Could this work? Should we pursue it?' And we looked it up online and didn't see anything like this, so we thought it would be important to get started."

And the main goal of the film, D'Amato explains, is to generate enough buzz about the possible end of soaps to possibly prevent it from happening. "Hopefully this will get enough attention to help the genre, because we don't want to see it fade away," he says, adding that it's tentatively scheduled for a June 2012 release date at film festivals and possibly on networks such as Showtime. "We do want to see it at festivals, and we do want to see it on networks [so] people who aren't soap fans can watch the film and kind of relate to it, hear the stories and maybe want to pick them up or maybe do something about the genre. We have contacts we can send it to in order to get it out there, so hopefully it will get bigger and bigger!"

    Casting Corner

    • Darnell Williams (ex-Jacob, The City/Loving) premieres as "Sarge" on The Young & The Restless February 20.

‘NCIS’ star to be a dad again

NCIS star Michael Weatherly (ex-Cooper, Loving/The City) is set to become a dad again - his wife Bojana Jankovic is pregnant.

The actor has told Life & Style magazine the baby is due in the spring.

He says, "We are very excited about welcoming a new member of the family, a daughter. I have a 16-year-old son and I am very excited to do it all over again.

"I am looking forward to not getting much sleep. (My wife) already wakes me up because she wants lasagna in the middle of the night!"

Weatherly and the doctor wed in 2009.

His son, August, was the product of his 1990s marriage to Amelia Heinle.

    Darnell Williams To Y&R!

Digest has learned that AMC fave Darnell Williams (ex-Jesse) has been hired at Y&R and will join longtime acting partner Debbi Morgan (Harmony; ex-Angie, AMC) in Genoa City. This will be the fourth show on which they have appeared together; on LOVING and THE CITY, Williams played Jesse lookalike Jacob Foster alongside Morgan as Angie. In addition to their lengthy acting collaboration, the duo are close friends — Williams even walked Morgan down the aisle at her 2009 wedding to Jeffrey Winston.

'NCIS' Star Sued Over BMW-Crushing Car Crash

"NCIS" star Michael Weatherly (ex-Copper, Loving/The City) has just been sued over the gnarly car accident he got into last year -- after allegedly injuring the other driver so bad ... the guy needed serious neck surgery.

The other driver -- Ivan Romeo Mendez -- filed the lawsuit recently in L.A. County Superior Court ... claiming he had to be hospitalized after the accident, which also destroyed his BMW beyond recognition.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg -- Mendez' lawyer tells TMZ, Ivan is suing for at least $80,000 in medical expenses after he had to undergo a rhizotomy because of the crash ... a neurological procedure that severs problematic nerves in the spinal cord.

So far, no word back from Weatherly's people.

Morgan Fairchild to Vamp On Bones

Glamorous '80s primetime soap diva Morgan Fairchild (ex-Dorothy, B&B/ex-Sydney, GH/ex-Sydney, The City/ex-Jennifer, Search For Tomorrow), who seduced her way through Dallas, Falcon Crest and Flamingo Road, has landed a colorful guest spot on the new season of Fox's Bones. Morgan will appear in the third episode as a woman named Bianca, the intelligent, impeccably dressed CEO of Dillio Toys. In the episode, remains of a toy company employee are discovered, and Brennan and Booth must put together the puzzle pieces, which somehow involve Bianca. What I'm most curious to see is if Brennan and Booth pick up a little toy for their gestating bundle of joy — and if it's a doll or a train. The episode is filming now.

    ATWT Star Has Passed Away

The daytime world has lost one of its star villains forever: Anthony Herrera, whose James Stenbeck tortured AS THE WORLD TURNS' Oakdale and Barbara Ryan for 30 years, passed away on Tuesday, June 21. Herrera died at the age of 67 in Buenos Aries, Argentina, where he'd been living since 2005.

In January 1997, Herrera was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma -- a rare and usually fatal cancer. In the course of his treatment, the actor underwent an autologous stem cell transplant and after a relapse, a donor transplant from his brother, the latter of which made medical history. Herrera even testified in The Senate in support of stem cell research. "The fact that I was asked to testify was a great honor," he told Soaps In Depth in 2008, adding that he wasn't the least bit intimidated by making his speech to Congress. "There aren't many people in the world who have had my life experience with cancer. I wasn't intimidated at all." Herrera was in remission for 10 years, and remained an advocate for government support in stem cell research.

A veteran of the stage, film and television, Herrera -- who also had contract roles on LOVING as Dane and THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS as Jack Curtis -- was the president of Poetry Theater, Inc., where actors such as Hume Cronyn, Charles Durning, Tyne Daly, and Willie Nelson have been known to recite verses on the stage. Donations in Herrera's memory can be made to Poetry Theatre, 210 West 70th Street, #808, New York, NY 10023.

The book Herrera wrote about his battle, The Cancer War, is available to download for free at www.thecancerwar.com.

    Nixon Donates Scripts

Agnes Nixon is generously donating virtually every All My Children, One Life To Live and Loving script to Philly’s Annenberg School for Communication (ASC), who will carefully and permanently preserve them.

“The Annenberg School is very well-known, and I believe Penn wanted the scripts as a piece of history,” says Nixon, who lives in the Philadelphia suburbs and has set her dramas in fictional towns resembling communities in the Delaware Valley.

Loving/The City Star Returns To Broadway!

A fan favorite will be shining on the stages of Broadway this spring! Paul Anthony Stewart has joined the cast of the new musical The People In The Picture! Set in 1970s New York City, the play tells the story of Bubbie, now a grandmother, but once the darling of the Yiddish Theatre in pre-war Poland. Although granddaughter Jenny loves hearing her stories, Bubbie's daughter, Red, will do anything to avoid memories of her childhood in Warsaw.

Stewart has previously appeared on Broadway as Perchik in Fiddler On The Roof and as Christian in Cyrano: The Musical. The People In The Picture will make its world debut at Studio 54 in New York City. Previews begin Friday, April 1, and the show officially opens on April 28, with a limited run through June 19. Facts

    1. Working title was Love Without End

    2. Loving's original studio was TV-1, where Millionaire tapes today. Then it moved to TV-23, where AMC is now, and then TV-24 where The View is now.

    3. The View is produced in the former Ryan's Hope/Loving/The City studio at ABC and they use parts of The City's loft for their set and All My Children is still there next door.

    4. The actors who played Cooper and Steffi were married in real life. Cooper (Michael Weatherly) and Steffi (Amelia Heinle) have been divorced a number of years now, and have one son named August. Michael was later engaged to Jessica Alba, of Dark Angel fame, but that dissolved.

    5. Most cancelled shows end all plots, but at the end of The City, it was shown that serial killer Molly Malone/Sandra Carlson killed Sydney Chase, and would probably kill again. I also have a question for you. Do you have any tapes of The City or Loving, or do you know of anybody that does?

    6. Agnes Nixon and Douglas Marland took a bold step in 1984 by having Loving’s Lily sexually molested by her biological father, Garth, rather than by a stepfather, as usually done on soaps. After the abuse, Lily developed a split personality and eventually went to Oregon for therapy.

    7. Also in 1984, Nixon chose to highlight the plight of a Vietnam veteran. James Kiberd’s (ex-Trevor, AMC), character, Mike, went on-location to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Real-life family members of vets who had been killed in the line of duty were captured on film as they stood by the monument.

    8. In 1995, Loving made history as it morphed into The City. To facilitate the change, the show had character Gwynneth Alden murder several members of her family. Frightened Corinth residents hightailed it to SoHo, NY to begin the City on November 13, 1995.

    9. Loving Theme: "Theme from Loving" by Michael Karp (1983-1989); "The Loving Theme (#1)", sung by Johnny Mathis (1989-1991); "The Loving Theme (#2)", by David Randall Lowe and David M. Shapiro (1991-1992); "The Loving Theme (#3)", aka "L-O-V-I-N-G", by Jeffrey Osborne (1992-1995)

    10. The show was broadcast in France under the title Amoureusement Votre (Lovingly Yours) and in Italy as Quando si ama (When someone loves)

    11. Daytime talk show The View used Sydney Chase's loft set from The City until its fifth season
