    News, Rumors & Scoop

(News section last updated February 10, 2012)

Andrew Lancel moved by Bill Roache chat

Coronation Street star Andrew Lancel has admitted that a chat with Bill Roache left him feeling emotional on his final day of filming at the soap. The actor finished work as Frank Foster last Friday (February 3) and his final scenes in the role will air in March, when the character will finally get his comeuppance. Speaking on Lorraine, Lancel revealed that he felt fine on his last day - but was moved when Roache (Ken Barlow) gave him some words of support. Lancel explained: "I finished last Friday, and there was so much love in that place. I'm going to miss Ali [King] and Gwen [Taylor] so much - we worked so intimately together. "[On the last day], I was alright, I was very calm and got lots of lovely presents. Bill Roache took me aside and said some lovely things. He's been in that show for 50 years, and you don't get away with 50 years. He's there because he's brilliant, and he sees the good in everyone. "He's an inspiration as a man and as an actor. I was alright until he said nice things!" However, Lancel noted: "It doesn't feel like leaving, because I was never staying. It was always book-ended and finite. I'm very sad to leave those cobbles and very sad to leave those people, because it has been a joy - every single day." The 41-year-old also hinted that multiple endings may be filmed for Frank's upcoming murder storyline. He said: "We genuinely did film two different outcomes [for the trial], and now there's different outcomes for what happens next - with what happens to Frank. People are guessing already about what's going to happen to him."

Natalie Gumede: 'Kirsty doesn't like herself'

Coronation Street star Natalie Gumede has suggested that her twisted character Kirsty Soames may have low self-esteem. Kirsty has caused a stir on the cobbles since embarking on a relationship with Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) a few months ago. Viewers have seen her causing trouble for Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) and discouraging Tyrone from spending time with his friends. Gumede told Loose Women today: "It's so fantastic to play. I think these roles are really rare, especially for women. To get a role like that is really a gift." Asked how she justifies Kirsty's antics, she replied: "We're still trying to find out at the moment. She's obviously damaged, and there's a whiff of rabbit stew in the air! "But there's definitely something in her past which has made her very jealous and possessive. I don't think she likes herself very much. I don't think she thinks she's deserving of love." The actress added that she is often approached by Coronation Street fans who want to comment on Kirsty. She joked: "The general opinion is that I'm plain evil, I think! Which is fair enough!" Coronation Street fans will see Tyrone propose to Kirsty in next week's episodes.

Andrew Lancel backs Frank Foster plot conclusion

Coronation Street star Andrew Lancel has admitted that he is glad his evil character Frank Foster will soon be getting his comeuppance. Frank was last week found not guilty of raping Carla Connor (Alison King) as his dramatic trial reached its conclusion. However, he won't be getting the last laugh as show bosses have confirmed that he will be murdered in March. Speaking on Daybreak this morning, Lancel reflected on his year-long stint playing the twisted businessman. Lancel explained: "It's been very dark. But one of the joys of it is I've always known what's going to happen to Frank from day one. They've let me play him as very acceptable and very believable, and that was the point. We didn't want him to be a mustache-twiddling baddie. "We wanted Frank to be very accessible and normal, and that's perhaps why people have latched onto the story more than usual. It's gone down an absolute storm, it's been great. And people are still talking about the issue of the story. "Every time I had a story in this show, a door would open. And when I go from the show, the storyline continues. It's great." He continued: "It's sad to leave the job, but it's not sad to leave Frank. He should get his comeuppance, and I've always known what's going to happen." Lancel also spoke of his plans to concentrate on singing for a while following his departure from the show. "The newspapers the other day said that I'm going back to singing, but I've never really gone away from it," he explained. "I've always performed and always done gigs. Last year I did some of my own solo concerts, which I'm doing again this year. I'll be crooning at a place near you soon!"

Frank Foster murder - six suspects revealed?

Warning: This article contains spoilers that some readers may prefer to avoid.

Six Coronation Street characters will become police suspects in the murder of Frank Foster, it has been reported. Sally Webster (Sally Dynevor), her ex-husband Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), Frank's mother Anne Foster (Gwen Taylor), Frank's former girlfriend and business partner Carla Connor (Alison King), Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) and Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) will all come under suspicion.

'Coronation Street' actor Andrew Lancel teases Frank future, show exit
"They all have a motive, but who has the guts to do it?" a production insider told the Daily Star. "This will be one of Corrie's biggest whodunnits ever. Fans will be shocked when they watch it unfold." It had already been reported that Frank's partner Sally would be found standing over his body, and that viewers would see her find out what he did to Carla when he threatens to attack her.

'Coronation Street's Alison King: 'Life stays tough for Carla'
It has now been revealed that Sally will apparently discover that the manipulative factory boss, played by Andrew Lancel, has been having an affair behind her back. Carla will fall into the frame as she seeks revenge after losing the factory and seeing Frank found not guilty of raping her by a trial jury. After the pair fight at the factory, she leaves her bag behind. When it is discovered by police, Peter confesses to the crime in an attempt to clear his lover Carla's name. Anne and Sally demand that Carla and Michelle hand over a box of silk addressed for Frank

Corrie's Kevin could kill Frank Foster, says Sally Dynevor
Kevin comes under suspicion when detectives discover that the brakes of Frank's car have been tampered with - days after it is serviced at his garage. Carla's sister-in-law Michelle also becomes a suspect when the police find out that she stole contracts from Frank to try and stop him taking the factory off Carla. Finally, Anne will discover that her son is guilty of rape and vows to punish him, telling Carla: "I know Frank raped you. But I swear I only found out after the trial. I heard him on the phone to you taunting you about it. Frank was lying to me when he was guilty all along." Speaking about the murder storyline last week, Lancel said: "[Frank] doesn't for one moment think his life might be in danger - he is too arrogant and cocky to think that could ever happen to him."

'Coronation Street' actress enjoyed Ben Price kissing scenes

Coronation Street's Catherine Tyldesley has praised Ben Price over the pair's upcoming kissing scenes. Tyldesley's alter ego Eva has an upcoming romantic moment with Nick Tilsley (Price) interrupted by Gail Platt (Helen Worth). She told ITV.com: "Ben is an absolute joy to work with. I am very comfortable around him and he never fails to make me smile. So kissing scenes don't feel awkward - which makes the job so much easier." Of her character's clash with Gail, the star added: "What interests me is that this time, Gail has met her match. Eva is determined to stick this one out and has genuinely fallen for the Street's best catch." Meanwhile, the 29-year-old actress admitted that she found it difficult to say goodbye to close friend and former co-star Katherine Kelly, who quit after six years playing Becky McDonald. Tyldesley added: "We were all very sad to say goodbye to Katherine Kelly last month. Kate has been like a sister to me for many years. "I'll miss her and I'll miss Becky. I'm so proud of what Kate has achieved with Becky, she has certainly made her mark. Becky has to be one of my all time favorite Corrie characters."

Katherine Kelly thrilled with life after soap

Former Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly has expressed her delight over the "amazing" success of her new stage project. The actress, who recently bowed out from her role as Weatherfield's Becky McDonald, is currently portraying the lead part of Kate in a production of classic play She Stoops to Conquer at the National Theatre in London. Her performance has secured a warm response from critics in recent days. Kelly told This Morning today: "The press night didn't happen until a week into the run for us, and the reviews have been amazing. It's lovely being in a hit! But the audience have loved it from the very beginning. They don't stop laughing. "I had some friends in last night, and they couldn't believe that it was written in 1773. We haven't changed anything - it's the original script, we're in corsets and it's exactly of that period. "But the director wanted it to be so accessible. He didn't want anybody to leave thinking, 'I didn't really understand that'. You understand the story straight away, so I think that makes it really present and really fun." Kelly added that her departure from Coronation Street is still sinking in, as she was busy on stage when her final episodes were broadcast on ITV1. She explained: "I didn't see them [go out]… It's all felt very surreal. The thing that's made it feel like it's actually true is things like Twitter and the messages I've had through."

Kylie Platt 'goes to war with Brian'

Coronation Street's Kylie Platt will step up her war with school headteacher Brian Packham in an upcoming storyline, reports have revealed. Kylie (Paula Lane) has already clashed with Brian (Peter Gunn) over his healthy eating plan for her son Max and the other children at his primary school. The feisty mom will launch an outright rebellion against Brian's meddling in forthcoming episodes, taking fish and chips and other fatty foods to the playground and handing them out to the pupils, according to the Daily Star. However, Brian is furious when he witnesses Kylie's antics, and as he tries to confiscate her supply, he ends up covered in mushy peas and chips following a tussle. Brian is currently pushing ahead with his healthy food scheme in a bid to win back favor with the school governors, who aren't happy with his performance as head. Whether his attempts will ultimately be successful remains to be seen. The UFO enthusiast is also about to feature in a baby storyline alongside his partner Julie, played by Katy Cavanagh.

Katy Cavanagh expects "chaotic" Julie baby scenes

Coronation Street star Katy Cavanagh has predicted that there will be "chaotic" scenes when her eccentric character Julie Carp becomes a mother. Julie discovers that she is pregnant in an upcoming episode after weeks of trying for a baby with partner Brian Packham (Peter Gunn). Pondering Julie's possible approach to motherhood, Cavanagh told Inside Soap: "Julie will be ridiculous. She'll take everything people tell her literally. It will drive her sister Eileen absolutely mad. "Julie will work hard at being a mom, but it'll be quite chaotic. She'll probably end up leaving the child in the supermarket! She'll adore her baby, though - it won't be left wanting in the love department." As previously reported, Brian is initially left wondering whether the baby is really his - as he had a vasectomy some time ago and failed to tell Julie. Cavanagh commented: "She and Brian have been talking loads about having a child together, and he's seemed really into the idea. The viewers may have been aware that he's been looking a little bit shifty about the whole thing - but Julie hasn't noticed that anything's wrong."

Alan Halsall expects Tyrone, Terry tension

Coronation Street star Alan Halsall has predicted that there could be tension between Tyrone Dobbs and Terry Duckworth when the Weatherfield bad boy makes his return. Nigel Pivaro last week announced that he is reprising the role of Terry, who has been tipped to cause a stir on the cobbles by launching an "audacious scheme". Terry's comeback will see him reunited with his son Tommy, played by Chris Fountain. However, Tyrone is likely to be unhappy to see him after the way he treated Jack and Vera when they were alive. Halsall told Digital Spy: "Myself and Nigel have had some good scenes in the past, and his return will bring a whole new dimension for Chris's character too. I'm looking forward to it. "I'm not sure yet whether anything will go on between Tyrone and Terry, but I think it's likely that something will. The last time Tyrone spoke to Terry, he told him not to turn up to Jack's funeral. So there's got to be a bit of bad blood there." Unconfirmed tabloid reports have suggested that Terry will launch a lap dancing club in Weatherfield once he arrives back in the area. Coronation Street fans will see Terry's return in April.

'Coronation Street' returnee Lewis Archer 'will be a changed man'

Coronation Street star Nigel Havers has promised that his character Lewis Archer will be a "changed man" when he returns to the cobbles later this month. Lewis left girlfriend Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) devastated in summer 2010 by fleeing Weatherfield after scamming Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) at the bookies. However, an upcoming storyline on the soap will see Lewis decide to finally face the music on Coronation Street after bumping into Audrey and her daughter Gail (Helen Worth) at a country pub. Havers told Inside Soap of his return: "Lewis is a changed man. He's back to apologize and repay the debts he owes. He returns the money he took from Peter at the bookies, and even adds an extra thousand pounds by way of compensation. "Lewis feels desperately bad about what he did, and he's going to be quite busy saying sorry over the next few weeks." Pondering whether Lewis really has turned over a new leaf, the actor continued: "There's always the danger Lewis could fall back into his old ways - and he is down to his last penny. But at the moment, Lewis is trying his hardest and has no ulterior motive - just an awful lot of ice to break instead!"

Frank Foster murder prime suspect revealed?

Warning: This article contains spoilers that some readers may prefer to avoid.

Sally Webster will be the prime suspect for Frank Foster's murder on Coronation Street, it has been claimed. A report in the Daily Star suggests that the evil Underworld boss - played by Andrew Lancel - threatens to rape Sally after admitting to her that he did attack Carla Connor (Alison King). Viewers of the ITV1 soap have just seen Frank acquitted of Carla's rape by a trial jury. "Does Sally have what it takes to kill? Only time will tell," a production insider told the publication. Sally (Sally Dynevor) will apparently discover that her lover intends to double-cross Carla, with Frank warning her: "If you know what's good for you you'll keep your mouth shut, because the last woman who crossed me certainly lived to regret it. Maybe you want some of the same." Sally will apparently be found standing over Frank's body in scenes to air later this year. Dynevor has previously hinted that she thinks her character's estranged husband Kevin (Michael Le Vell) could kill Frank, saying: "If Frank hurt Sally in any way, I wouldn't like to guess what Kevin would do to him - I think he might even be capable of murder." Coronation Street bosses confirmed Frank's murder after the trial verdict aired last Friday (February 3), promising that multiple suspects will have a motive for killing him.

Ryan Thomas: 'I want fun scenes for Jason'

Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas has said that he wants "fun" times ahead on the cobbles for his character Jason Grimshaw. Jason will be left heartbroken later this week as his girlfriend Rosie Webster dumps him to take part in a reality TV show in London. The plot twist is Helen Flanagan's exit storyline as she recently decided to leave the soap. Speaking to Lorraine about what could be next for Jason, Thomas explained: "I know the direction it's going. I'm not allowed to say too much about it, but I know that they're putting me with [different] people and I don't know what's going to happen there. But that should be exciting for him. "I just want Jason to have a bit of fun. He's been tied to that relationship and he always seems to get into relationships too quickly." Thomas also confirmed that he will miss Flanagan following her recent departure from the program. "In real life, she is the funniest person ever," he commented. "We will [miss her], yeah. Obviously a lot of people come and go over the years, but when you work so closely with someone… She's a massive character and she will be missed. "They've kept the door wide open for Helen. People like to spread their wings, go out there and see what the real world is about, because we're a big bubble in that show. We wish Helen all the best."

Alison King: 'Life stays tough for Carla'

Coronation Street star Alison King has revealed that evil Frank Foster will try to "bully" Carla Connor out of Underworld in the coming days. Carla was recently left distraught when Frank was found not guilty of raping her, but there is more drama on the way in upcoming episodes as he tries to take over her business. Tonight's episodes see Frank (Andrew Lancel) return to the factory and announce that he is moving back in now that he is a free man. King told itv.com of the storyline: "Carla's feeling devastated straight after the trial, but she really just wants to move on, get back into the factory and get back into the swing of things. She's got Peter to lean on and he's helping her do that, but there's complications. "Frank's still about and making trouble. She arrives back to her factory raring to go, to discover that he's moved in there. He offers to buy her out because he thinks this is going to be a really good solution. He tries to bully her out." The actress added that, to make matters worse, Peter (Chris Gascoyne) will struggle to get his young son Simon (Alex Bain) to accept his new romance with Carla. King said: "Carla and Peter's relationship is floating, blooming, it's beautiful. They've got banter, they've got everything. But Carla, Peter and Simon - that's not so easy. Simon hates her."

Andrew Lancel: 'I'm getting back into singing'

Coronation Street star Andrew Lancel has revealed that he is planning to concentrate on singing for a while following his departure from the cobbles. The actor is thought to have already filmed his final scenes as villain Frank Foster, who has a dramatic exit storyline in March. Lancel toured the UK with his An Audience With Andrew Lancel shows last year and is now looking forward to more dates across the country. "I'm really looking forward to getting back to singing," he told The Sun. "I've done it on and off for years. I'm going back on the road and will get back into acting later in the year." Discussing the public's reaction to Frank, he continued: "Corrie is watched by so many people, you have fans coming up to you in the supermarket, saying, 'Hi Frank'. I had that a bit in The Bill but nothing like it is in Corrie." Coronation Street chiefs have confirmed that Frank's twisted behavior will continue in the coming weeks as he tries to make ex-fiancée Carla Connor (Alison King) pay for dragging him through the courts. However, the businessman later gets his comeuppance as his lifeless body will be found at the factory - sparking a 'whodunit' mystery on the cobbles.

    Terry Duckworth return plot revealed?

Warning: This article contains spoilers that some readers may prefer to avoid.

Coronation Street villain Terry Duckworth will open a lap dancing club in Weatherfield when he returns to the cobbles, a tabloid report has claimed today. The bad boy, played by Nigel Pivaro, will cause a stir in the area by setting up the business in a few weeks' time, according to The Mirror. It is thought that Terry's latest antics could spark particular opposition from the street's more conservative residents. A Coronation Street source told the newspaper: "Can you imagine the impact the place will have on the more elderly characters in the street?" Coronation Street bosses announced plans for Terry's return last week, promising fireworks when he is reunited with his son Tommy (Chris Fountain). Producer Phil Collinson recently said: "I grew up watching [Terry] duck and dive and break his parents' hearts - a deliciously evil performance from Nigel Pivaro. "This time, though, he'll not only be blighting the life of his son Tommy but the lives of every resident of Coronation Street with a typically audacious scheme." Coronation Street will air Terry's return scenes in April.

'Dancing On Ice' Vicky Ogden eyes Corrie cameo

Dancing On Ice star Vicky Ogden has revealed that she wants a cameo in Coronation Street. The professional skater, who joined the show this year, said that celebrity partner Andy Whyment - Kirk Sutherland in the soap - is taking her for a tour of the cobbled streets. "Andy is taking me on set with him so I can follow him around and meet some of the cast. I'm a Corrie fan but I only ever get to see it from my sofa so it will be amazing to see it from behind the scenes," Ogden told the Daily Star Sunday. "I'm hoping to get a cameo or get in a shot - that would be great. She added: "We have a brotherly, sisterly relationship. He's incredibly hard-working and is determined to improve." Andy Whyment recently admitted that he wants to stay in Coronation Street for as long as possible.

'Coronation Street' set to become English Heritage site?

The current Coronation Street set could be preserved as a historic monument, it has been revealed. The Granada Studios set, including the Rovers Return and the Kabin, is apparently close to being listed by English Heritage and turned into a tourist attraction, the Sunday Mirror reports. Filming of Coronation Street is being relocated to the new MediaCityUK complex at Salford Quays this year after being approved by Trafford Council. An English Heritage source said: "There's a really good chance it will be granted listed status in April. It's a truly iconic place that millions have grown up with, and a lot of historic TV moments have happened there. It would be perfect sense to turn it into a tourist attraction." The present outdoor set was built in 1982 and attracted half a million visitors a year on public tours of Granada Studios until 1999. A brand new set will be built at MediaCityUK and the old site will be sold for development, but it can't be knocked down if it is granted English Heritage status. An ITV spokesman said: "We are aware of the listing application."

Helen Flanagan: 'I didn't enjoy playing Rosie'

Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan has admitted that she began to dislike her character Rosie Webster. The 21-year-old actress, who has been in the ITV1 soap since the age of 10, said leaving the show will help her transition to adulthood. "When I'm acting, I like things to feel real, and I didn't like Rosie's bitchiness. I didn't enjoy playing that kind of character. She went through a phase of being such a catty girl. As an actress you do the best job you can, but I didn't enjoy it because it didn't feel real," Flanagan told the Sunday Mirror. "I always said to myself that I was going to leave when I turned 21. For me, the show represents my childhood, and I just couldn't have properly become an adult if I hadn't left. I'm so grateful for the opportunities Corrie has given me, but I was in a bubble and the time is right for me to go. "It finally feels as though I've left my childhood behind. People keep asking me what I'm going to do next, but I just want to enjoy being me and live for the moment for a while. I've been on Corrie since I was 10. It hasn't just been my job, it's been my whole life." Flanagan added that she now wants to play a completely different character, such as a role in Downton Abbey or Juliet in Romeo and Juliet. Rosie will bid farewell to Weatherfield on Friday when viewers see her break up with Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) to pursue her dream of becoming famous by moving to London for a dating show.

'Coronation Street' confirms Frank Foster death plot

Coronation Street bosses have officially announced that evil Frank Foster will be killed in a forthcoming storyline twist. The villainous businessman was left celebrating in Friday night's double bill of the soap as he was found not guilty of raping Carla Connor (Alison King) and walked out of court a free man. However, Frank won't be getting the last laugh as tensions will continue to rise on the cobbles in upcoming episodes - resulting in his death. Over the next few weeks, vengeance will be on the minds of several characters as the dramatic consequences of Frank's acquittal play out. Even Frank's current girlfriend Sally Webster (Sally Dynevor) will finally see his true colors, leaving her feeling humiliated and terrified of what he is capable of. Throughout February, Coronation Street fans will see Frank become a hate figure in Weatherfield as he tries to make Carla pay for dragging him through the courts. Andrew Lancel, who plays Frank, commented: "Erase and eradicate, that is his plan. And he will go about it in the worst possible way. He is enjoying tormenting Carla, he is enjoying turning the screw. "His true colors are finally showing through, and no-one is safe in his scheming head. But he doesn't for one moment think his life might be in danger - he is too arrogant and too cocky to think that could ever happen to him!" Coronation Street chiefs have confirmed that Frank's lifeless body will be found at the factory, following days of arguments and confrontations with his various associates and enemies. However, with so many suspects in the frame for the crime, police and viewers alike will be left baffled over who the killer was. As the mystery unravels, though, events later reach a dramatic climax and the culprit is finally unmasked.

Helen Flanagan wants 'Romeo and Juliet' role

Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan has revealed that she is eyeing a part in Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet. The Rosie Webster actress, who announced her decision to quit last year, filmed her final scenes on the Weatherfield soap in December. Teasing future roles, she told The Sun's TV Buzz: "The perfect role for me would be in Romeo and Juliet. The character Rosie can be quite bitchy at times, but Juliet is more like me. "I'm a romantic person so I know I could play that part really well, and I'm quite good at Shakespeare because I studied him for my A-level in English Literature. "It's a completely fresh start for me, I've been in Corrie for 12 years - it's all I've ever known. But now I'm living in Wales with my boyfriend [footballer Scott Sinclair], who I've been with for two years." Flanagan, who suffered panic attacks in the autumn, went on: "I feel like I've got this new-found freedom. When I decided to leave Coronation Street, there was other personal stresses in my life. "But a week later the panic attacks started. I've always been such a confident person, but I started getting feelings of anxiety and being geeky, I was too embarrassed to say anything. "Gradually it got worse until it was full on for about a month. I was always comfortable at work, so for it to happen to me after 12 years wasn't very pleasant. Getting through it has made me such a strong person." The star added: "Amazingly, I haven't had any panic attacks for the past two months. It was emotional, everyone came to say goodbye and I was given this CD full of pictures of me and Rosie since day one. But I love my exit storyline. I'm really pleased they didn't kill Rosie off and that the door has been left open."

Alan Halsall: 'Tyrone rushes with Kirsty proposal'

Coronation Street star Alan Halsall has admitted that his character Tyrone Dobbs may not be thinking straight when he proposes to pregnant girlfriend Kirsty Soames. As first reported last month, Tyrone pops the question to Kirsty in an upcoming storyline as he feels guilty after wrongly accusing her of an affair. Tyrone makes his mistake after his friends Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) and Tommy Duckworth (Chris Fountain) become convinced that Kirsty is cheating and tell him about their suspicions. Halsall, revealing what happens when Tyrone confronts Kirsty, told All About Soap: "Kirsty's seething - mainly because she's always stressed she would never cheat on him like his wife Molly did before she died. Kirsty tells Tyrone that they can't carry on seeing each other if there's no truth in their relationship, and she leaves him. He's absolutely heartbroken when she does it. "He blames himself for ever listening to Tommy and Tina, and is convinced that he's blown his chances with Kirsty for good. Sally urges him to keep fighting for her, so he goes to the police station. Tyrone ends up proposing to Kirsty because he can't think of any better way to cement their relationship. It's all a bit of a rush, but he genuinely does love her." While Kirsty accepts Tyrone's proposal, Halsall predicted that the drama between them is far from over. He explained: "There's definitely more to Kirsty than meets the eye, and at the moment we've got no idea why she behaves the way she does. Kirsty's problems could be really deep-rooted, but there's no doubt that Tyrone will get hurt again somehow by her."

Julie is not a love cheat, says Katy Cavanagh

Coronation Street star Katy Cavanagh has predicted that Julie Carp will be "completely appalled" if her partner Brian Packham accuses her of having an affair. As first revealed last month, Cavanagh's character will discover that she is pregnant in an upcoming storyline. However, her happy news leaves Brian stunned as he had a vasectomy some time ago and hasn't told Julie. The plot then shows Brian (Peter Gunn) in turmoil as he wonders whether Julie has cheated on him. However, Cavanagh told Soaplife: "She'd never be unfaithful. And she'd be completely appalled, bemused, betrayed and angry that he could ever think she had been." Discussing Brian's attitude, she continued: "Julie certainly doesn't get the reaction she expects. She thinks he'll be overwhelmed at the thought of being a dad, but he doesn't even come home that night." Cavanagh added that she believes Julie and Brian can overcome the misunderstanding eventually. "She'd forgive him everything, especially now she's carrying his baby," the actress said.

'Coronation Street' triumphs at Broadcast Awards

Coronation Street has picked up its second gong in two weeks by winning the top soap prize at the 2012 Broadcast Awards. The Weatherfield show was named 'Best Soap/Continuing Drama' at Thursday night's ceremony, which was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. Coronation Street triumphed in the category over fellow nominees Casualty, EastEnders, Emmerdale, Holby City and Hollyoaks. The Broadcast Awards are not determined by a public vote, but instead use a panel of judges to reward excellence in television each year. Emmerdale claimed the top soap title at last year's ceremony. Coronation Street's victory comes just a week after the show took home two prizes at the National Television Awards, including the 'Most Popular Serial Drama' gong. Coronation Street's executive producer Kieran Roberts today told Digital Spy: "We're absolutely thrilled to have won such a prestigious industry award, especially so soon after two big viewer vote awards at the National Television Awards. It's an honor to receive such appreciation from our peers and the viewing public at the same time." Other winners on the evening included Downton Abbey and The Inbetweeners.

Chris Fountain excited over Terry Duckworth return

Coronation Street star Chris Fountain has expressed his delight over his screen father Terry Duckworth's upcoming return to the soap. Show bosses today announced that Terry, played by Nigel Pivaro, will be back on screen in the spring - upsetting the lives of the Weatherfield residents. Fountain, who has been playing Terry's son Tommy for nearly a year, discussed the big news during an appearance on Loose Women today. "We've literally just found out about it, but we know that he's going to come back and he's going to cause trouble," Fountain explained. "For me, I'm looking forward to it because it opens up a whole other side of Tommy that I can work with, and that nobody has ever seen before. I think he'll come to realize just what type of dad he's got!" Fountain continued: "Tommy's been put as this womaniser, but this opens up a whole different side of his character - and it's going to test Tommy and Tina's relationship. To have Terry come back is really exciting." Meanwhile, Michelle Keegan - who plays Tina - warned that her feisty character will take no nonsense from Terry. She said: "I think Tina will give him a run for his money!"

'Coronation Street' return for Terry Duckworth

Coronation Street bosses have announced that Terry Duckworth will be returning to the cobbles in the spring. Nigel Pivaro has agreed to reprise his role as the Weatherfield villain, who is the wayward son of the late Jack and Vera (Bill Tarmey and Liz Dawn) and father of current resident Tommy (Chris Fountain). When he makes his return, Terry has no idea that Tommy is living on the street. Dramatic scenes are then expected to follow when the reasons for his comeback become clear. Pivaro commented: "I am elated to be returning to Coronation Street, which as a Salfordian has been part of my life for nearly 50 years - not just as a character in the show, but as a fan long before becoming an actor. "I have lived with Terry for more years than not now and have come to realize that he exists in the minds of so many people that he is almost real. "Despite enjoying so many other acting roles and spending the last five years as a journalist writing for a range of newspaper titles and making documentaries with the BBC's Inside Out series, I am always proud to carry Terry with me. Therefore when producer Phil Collinson talked about Terry returning to the Street, it was an offer I did not want to refuse." He continued: "Part of the excitement is that the show has changed so much with so many different characters and set ups - it will present Terry with a completely different landscape to that which he knew before. I am going to enjoy playing Terry rediscovering his roots, the changes that have taken place and his reaction to them. "It will be strange and a little sad without my old sparring partners, Bill and Liz, with whom I had forged such a strong working and personal relationship - but I relish creating an interesting new rapport with Chris, who plays Terry's son Tommy." Coronation Street boss Phil Collinson added: "I'm very excited to be welcoming arch villain Terry Duckworth back to Coronation Street. I grew up watching him duck and dive and break his parents' hearts - a deliciously evil performance from Nigel Pivaro. "This time, though, he'll not only be blighting the life of his son Tommy but the lives of every resident of Coronation Street with a typically audacious scheme." Terry has made numerous appearances on Coronation Street since his debut in 1983. He was last seen in 2008 on the day of Vera's funeral.

Marcus to have big storylines, says Charlie Condou

Coronation Street star Charlie Condou has promised that his alter ego Marcus Dent will become a more prominent character on the show this year.

The actor returned to the role of Marcus last year and recently signed a new contract which will keep him on the cobbles until at least March 2013.

Condou appeared on Lorraine this morning and revealed that Coronation Street bosses have big plans for Marcus.

Asked whether fans will see more of him, he replied: "Yes, I think so. Obviously I can't say too much, but I think I've got a big year coming up. That's what I've been promised - so a lot of big storylines for Marcus."

Discussing Marcus's personality, he continued: "I think he's one of life's carers really, isn't he? That's his job obviously, but he's somebody who likes to make sure that everyone's alright - and I really like that about him."

Condou also expressed his delight over Coronation Street's recent triumph in the 'Serial Drama' category at the National Television Awards.

"It was really good, and we were actually genuinely surprised," he said. "It got to the point where we thought, 'Oh, EastEnders will probably get it again' - I was so over the moon for [the producers], because they deserve it so much."

Condou's original stint in Weatherfield ran for a year from September 2007 to September 2008.

Sasha Behar: 'Holby City role not like Coronation Street Mad Maya'

Holby City newcomer Sasha Behar has revealed that her character Alex Broadhurst will be very different to her classic Coronation Street role as 'Mad' Maya Sharma. The actress, who portrayed Maya between 2003 and 2004, appears on Holby from next week. Viewers will see new consultant Alex arrive at the hospital as part of a storyline for established regular Michael Spence (Hari Dhillon). Behar told What's On TV of Alex's personality: "She's a high-flyer, who's proved everything she needs to prove and is just there to do the best job she can. She certainly hasn't come in to put anyone's nose out of joint. "Alex and Michael are on a collision course the moment they meet. She doesn't know that Michael thinks he's already the boss, and he doesn't know she's been told to apply for the job as clinical lead of AAU. Hanssen's got them both as puppets on a string." Asked whether Alex could be unhinged like Maya, she replied: "There must be something in my make-up - I seem to bring a little bit of that with me, wherever I go. But, as much as it's hard to live Maya down, Alex goes in a very different direction." Alex will be on Holby City for a six-episode stint before leaving the hospital. Behar added: "Her exit [is] to do with something that's revealed about why she came to Holby in the first place."

Bill Roache wants more Barlow troubles

Coronation Street star Bill Roache has admitted that he is keen to see more turmoil for the Barlow clan. The actor's character Ken recently kicked adoptive daughter Tracy (Kate Ford) out of the family home after Becky McDonald's revenge saw the schemer's true colors revealed. Meanwhile, more drama is expected to play out over the coming days as Ken's son Peter (Chris Gascoyne) deals with the consequences of his affair with Carla Connor being exposed. Roache told Loose Women today: "Long may it reign! Dysfunctionality is the order of the day! I'm not responsible for Tracy's genes - that's Deirdre and Ray Langton. But I'm afraid for Peter's genes, I am! "Peter, going way back, he's a bigamist, an alcoholic, an adulterer. You name it, he's done it." Discussing Tracy, he continued: "She is a one - and a half! And that will carry on. She is unbelievable, really, what she does. Deirdre certainly feels for her, and Ken does occasionally. When she got married, Ken thought it was all going to be lovely, but then he discovered what she'd done. It's great stories." The 79-year-old, who has been with Coronation Street since episode one in 1960, added that he wants to be part of the drama on the cobbles for some time to come. He explained: "People say, 'When are you going to retire?' I say, 'It's not an option'. While they want me and while I can do it, I will carry on."

    More Betty send-off details revealed

Betty Williams's send-off from Coronation Street will be centred around her wake, it has emerged today. Inside Soap has revealed that Betty's funeral will take place off-screen, with the main action occurring when Weatherfield's residents toast her life at The Rovers after attending the service. Digital Spy understands that a number of characters will be seen leaving for the funeral, before later returning to the pub to reminisce over Betty. The main story will be Betty's "surprising" secret - as show producer Phil Collinson recently teased in a newspaper interview. "We will be paying tribute to Betty, but behind the scenes will be the revelation of a secret she has kept hidden," Collinson said last week. "I cannot tell you what it is, but it's a secret that Betty has taken to the grave with her and I can promise you that fans will be surprised. "There is no love child or anything like that. The secret has something to do with the show's history but I am saying no more." As announced today, Bill Kenwright will be reprising his role as Betty's son Gordon for the episodes in question - but no other old faces are expected to return.

Bill Kenwright to return for Betty's funeral

Bill Kenwright will reprise his Coronation Street role as Gordon Clegg for Betty Williams's funeral, it has emerged. Betty's son Gordon will return to screens in April, joining Weatherfield's residents as they gather to pay their last respects to his mother. This Morning's soaps correspondent Sharon Marshall revealed the news on today's edition of the ITV1 magazine show. Marshall explained: "We've got a little announcement to make about Betty and the funeral plans. Betty's funeral will be screened in April. "There's been so many rumors in the press, but there's only one person who they've actually asked to come back - and that's Bill Kenwright, who played her on-screen son." Kenwright, who is now chairman of Everton Football Club, first appeared on Coronation Street in 1968 and went on to have a number of stints on the Weatherfield show. He was last seen as Gordon in 1995, but actor Geoffrey Leesley has since played the role in 2002 and 2004. Betty Driver, who portrayed Betty for 42 years, passed away in October at the age of 91 following a period of ill health. Coronation Street bosses have promised that Betty's exit storyline will also see the revelation of a secret that the Rovers barmaid kept for many years.
