The Captain, played by Spin City actor Barry Bostwick, will make a surprise visit to Oceanside Wellness Center in an intense November episode entitled “Sins of the Father.” Addison and The Captain “have bad blood between them,” the show rep says. “It’s a tense relationship.” Private Practice airs Thursday (10 p.m. EST) on ABC. On Sept. 21, the show’s actors brought their bedside manner to The American Cancer Society's Blow Out Cancer event. Kate Walsh and company gathered at Spago in Beverly Hills to celebrate cancer survivors and, of course, the show’s new season.“It’s like a freight train once the season takes off,” said Walsh. “We hit the ground running with the cliffhanger. We resolve that in the first episode.” “If you’ve got Amy Brenneman on a show, you don’t kill her,” laughed Chris Lowell. “You kill me off or maybe Taye [Diggs], but not Amy Brenneman.” “I don’t think I’m letting a secret out by saying she is coming back,” added Paul Adelstein. “The question is, “For how long?”’ “Let’s just say Violet is a disaster area,” added Tim Daly. “It’s fantastic that the characters on Private Practice cut her so much slack because she is a stone cold mess.” But don’t expect the drama to begin and end with Violet’s battered body and crazy patient. “In the third episode, we have Chandra Wilson coming over for a very intense, timely medical case,” divulged Walsh. “She comes down and there’s a lot of action there. There’s some great relationship sparks between her and Sam.” Could there be more than one familiar face on the horizon? While tightlipped co-stars like Daly and Strickland played coy, Adelstein was more forthcoming. “You’ll see a Seattle Grace doctor or two in Los Angeles,” he said. “There will be a little crossing over between Grey’s and Private Practice this year.” “I want to be on their show,” joked Daly. “I want them to figure out a way to get me to Seattle. I’d like to go play with those people.” For the time being, Walsh is excited about present company. “There’s a lot of stuff between Addison and Sam this year,” she revealed. “I get to play with the fabulous Taye Diggs, which is always awesome. He’s secretly the funniest man in America. You’ll get to see his sense of humor come out more and more. I think we’ve got a great chemistry.” Might Private Practice do a Dancing with the Stars-esque episode? “I pitched [Addison] taking tango lessons or a dance class with some hot dance instructor or something,” teased Walsh, “but I don’t know if Shonda [Rhimes] is going to go for it.” Jokes aside, those worried about Dr. Charlotte King’s firing can rest easy. “She’s a very powerful, little critter,” said Strickland. “I think a place of power is a place you may see her. You’ll just have to watch and see.” Private Practice premieres tonight at 10/9c on ABC. Walsh not big on M.D. visits(10/1/09) Kate Walsh isn't sure if playing Dr. Addison Montgomery on Private Practice, and previously on Grey's Anatomy, has improved her medical outlook in real life."I don't know if I'm a better patient," Walsh said. "I think so. But I don't really love going to the doctor. Maybe it's out of pure laziness, I'm not sure." But surely Walsh must know more about medicine than she did before the role of Addison came her way. "I'm just an actress," said Walsh, slicing a scalpel through the theory of knowledge by osmosis. "Personally, I have huge respect for doctors, both Western medicine and Eastern. But really what I like is alternative medicine, acupuncture, things like that. That's what I kind of go for." The third season of Private Practice debuts tonight on ABC and A. Private Practice Is Bloody Brilliant(10/1/09) Private Practice returns to ABC (Oct. 1, 10/9c) with a bloody good premiere. Yes, it's good. And yes, it's very bloody. When we last saw Violet (Amy Brenneman), she was being chopped up by her psycho patient, who wanted to steal her baby. The beginning of the premiere kicks off seconds later and — spoiler alert — Violet lives. How does the attack affect the members of the Oceanside Wellness Center, which was also left in pieces? Paul Adelstein reveals the aftermath of that fateful night and also talks about the baby daddy, new relationships and another possible Grey's Anatomy crossover. TVGuide.com: Cooper has always been there for Violet, but will she let him be so close after what happens in the season premiere? Paul Adelstein: She certainly has some emotional and psychological obstacles to get over before she can let anybody in. Those around her, including Cooper, have some as well. Cooper has some serious guilt about being so close and not being able to help her. His reaction to that is interesting. It takes some work for him to be able to comfort her, and vice versa, for her to receive comfort from anybody. TVGuide.com: How does everyone deal with what happened to Violet? Adelstein: A lot of the narrative is driven by Violet's attack and the aftermath, and that has to do with all of the relationships in the practice really. [There's] a lot of stress on everybody. There's the whole baby issue and taking care of the baby and who the father is. Violet had chosen Pete [Tim Daly] at the end of last season and I think he fully expects to be the principal person in her life, but she might not be capable of that kind of attention. TVGuide.com: Will we actually find out who the baby daddy is? Adelstein: Yes, we do find out. She's completely incapacitated, so somebody has to [take care of the baby], and that becomes a little bit of a conflict as well. TVGuide.com: What will we see for Cooper and Charlotte's relationship? Adelstein: What happens to Violet is a wakeup call to Cooper in terms of growing up and moving forward with his life. He wants Charlotte [KaDee Strickland] to be a part of that. TVGuide.com: Cooper has a very full plate this season. How does he handle that? Adelstein: He does have a lot on his plate and that really throws a wrench into the works. Things happen in the practice that force him to step up a bit. Later in the season, there's some things that happened last season that come back around that Cooper has to deal with. A couple of medical cases that he made some — they were the right decisions, but a lot of the doctors have grey areas in terms of medical ethics, they're probably doing the right thing, but legally they may have crossed some boundaries, and that will come back to haunt some of us. TVGuide.com: Are the words "medical malpractice" thrown around? Adelstein: Those words may be used. TVGuide.com: We know that Chandra Wilson, who plays Bailey on Grey's Anatomy, is crossing over. Is there a chance for more crossovers with Grey's? Adelstein: I think there are. I'm not 100 percent sure of that, but I caught wind that there may be somewhere down the line this season. TVGuide.com: What does Bailey do when she crosses over? Adelstein: There's a medical case that brings her, but since she has a personal relationship with Addison [Kate Walsh], obviously, there's some personal stuff that ends up happening, too. In classic Bailey fashion, she's not shy about weighing in about the various dysfunctions that she sees around her, which are both hilarious and brutal. There is also some medical stuff where she has to get our doctors involved, too. A New Man for Kate Walsh(9/22/09) Kate Walsh seems to have moved on from her divorce to film executive Alex Young – she attended the Emmy Awards Sunday with new beau Neil Andrea. But the Private Practice actress isn't about to kiss-and-tell.When asked about her hot date, Walsh told PEOPLE, "I'm not going to talk about that! I know you have to ask, but it's super top-secret! It's in the vault!" What wasn't secret was their affection. In the Architectural Digest greenroom at the Emmy Awards, Walsh introduced Andrea to actor Chris O'Donnell as "my boyfriend." Later, the pair were seen locking lips, according to the New York Daily News. Andrea also supported her at the ABC Private Practice "Blow Out Cancer" charity event benefiting the American Cancer Society Monday night at Spago in Beverly Hills. At the Private Practice event Monday, Walsh, 41, and Andrea, 35, arrived together but Walsh talked to the press while Andrea quietly slipped inside to hold court with her costars Taye Diggs, Tim Daly, Paul Adelstein, and Chris Lowell. In a March cover story for Redbook, Walsh thanked her friends and family for supporting her after Young, whom she married in September 2007, filed for divorce in December 2008 citing irreconcilable differences. She said, "Alex and I still care for each other, and I wish him nothing but the best."
