    Sightings

(2/9/10) Miami, meanwhile, was the place to be for all the stars, who were in town for the Super Bowl. At an Audi-sponsored bash at the W South Beach, Kate Walsh was spotted chatting up friends, while Hilary Swank relaxed on a couch on the other side of the penthouse, sitting near Taylor Lautner. The next night, the hotel hosted the Creative Arts Agency bash, where Alex Rodriguez partied with Cameron Diaz and her Knight and Day costar Tom Cruise, who was also hanging close to wife Katie Holmes. The group danced on the banquettes at Wall, the club inside the W, and drank vodka during their night out.

Kate Walsh and Ex to Flip Coin Over Furniture in Divorce

(2/5/10) Kate Walsh and ex-husband Alex Young have finalized their divorce, Los Angeles records show, but the final who-gets-what will come down to a coin toss.

"One-half of the community property furniture and artwork to be divided by alternating picks after the flip of a coin to determine who will pick first," their settlement agreement reads.

Young, a studio executive, will also receive $627,000 in the settlement as well as one-half of residuals for all work performed by the Private Practice star during their marriage. Walsh, 42, will be keeping ownership of a home, various bank accounts and a piano.

The couple exchanged vows in Sept. 2007 after a whirlwind romance, and were married for a year and two months. They have no children together.

Walsh has been linked since to camera operator Neil Andrea.

(2/5/10) "The Mentalist" scored Thursday's biggest audience on what was a somewhat soft night for network TV overall. An exception was "Bones," which had another strong outing for FOX.

CBS led the way Thursday night with 12.5 million viewers and a 7.8 rating/13 share in households. FOX (9.85 million, 5.9/9) came in second, a little bit ahead of ABC (9 million, 6.0/10). NBC's 5.2 million viewers and 3.3/5 were good enough for fourth, while The CW (3.2 million, 2.0/3) got a solid performance from "The Vampire Diaries."

Fast National ratings for Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010

(1/22/10) Once again, "Grey's Anatomy" snagged the best demographic numbers for the night, but "The Mentalist" was back on top with total viewers, taking the crown back from "CSI." ABC's new legal dramedy "The Deep End" had a lukewarm debut and was the weakest link in both ratings and demo in the ABC lineup.

CBS led Thursday with 11.97 million viewers and a 7.5 rating/12 share in households, a slight dip from the previous week. Second place went to ABC with 9.8 million and a 6.5/10, followed by FOx (9.4 million, 5.6/9), NBC (5.1 million, 3.2/5) and The CW (3.2 million, 2.0/3).

ABC, NBC Pick Up New Pilots

(1/20/10) ABC and NBC have both picked up new pilots, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

On Tuesday, ABC picked up Off the Map, which is executive produced by Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes. The drama follows three doctors who leave their cushy jobs in the United States for an isolated tropical clinic. There they face exotic and unusual medical challenges — as well as personal ones.

ABC's Body of Evidence revolves around a former neurosurgeon-turned-medical examiner who solves crimes and tends to clash with her superiors. Executive producer Matt Gross describes the serious as "a female postmortem House."

NBC's The Strip, a comedy from Reno 911! co-creators/stars Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, centers on a former child-star (Lennon) who owns a Hooters-esque restaurant in a strip mall on the outskirts of Las Vegas.

Fast National ratings for Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010

(1/15/10) "Grey's Anatomy" pulled in Thursday's best demographic numbers, but the show couldn't match "CSI" in the total audience race. The night as a whole, however, was nothing to write home about for the broadcast networks.

Led by "CSI," CBS won the night with 13.4 million viewers and an 8.4 rating/14 share in households. ABC (9.7 million, 6.3/10) came in second, a little bit ahead of FOX (8.6 million, 5.2/8). NBC's 4.8 million and 3.1/5 was good enough for fourth, while The CW (1.5 million, 1.0/2), per usual, trailed.

ABC scored highest among adults 18-49 with a 3.4 rating. CBS and FOX tied for second at 2.9. NBC averaged 2.0 and The CW 0.6.

Kate Walsh Talks Grey's-Private Crossover: Sexy Time Coming!

(1/14/10) Boy, does Private Practice's Addison (Kate Walsh) have man troubles. She's kissed Derek (Patrick Dempsey), Mark (Eric Dane), Sam (Taye Diggs), but can't seem to hold down a boyfriend. And her love woes will continue during the Grey's Anatomy-Private Practice crossover, Walsh says. Facing a family crisis, Addison will turn to Mark. But that will make Sam reconsider his decision to turn down her booty call. Yes, all of these characters are supposed to be doctors. Walsh spoke with TVGuide.com about what else we can look forward to in the crossover, who she thinks Addison should end up with, and what's ahead in the second half of the season.

TVGuide.com: Addison is going through quite a tough time after finding out these secrets about her family. How do they change her?

Kate Walsh: She went through quite a tumultuous time and she's still kind of raw. Everything that she thought about her entire childhood was blown out of the water. Even though they resolved it kind of quickly... they resolved it in that waspy way, where everything was buttoned up and Bizzy [JoBeth Williams] got on a plane. She comes back to work and she's still pretty frazzled. Everyone is wondering what's going on.

On top of that, she goes up to Seattle to work on a case with Mark Sloane, then he comes back. She's in a — personally, I think — pretty fraught place. Plus, she has this high-pressure surgery that she's going to do for Sloan [Leven Rambin] and there's some complications with that. It leads her to this crazy, very exposed, vulnerable place, lots of madness and drama.

TVGuide.com: What else can fans look forward to in the crossover?

Walsh: It's a super sexy episode, that's all I'm going to say. It's been a real dry spell for Addison...

TVGuide.com: Was it nice getting back with the Grey's cast again?

Walsh: I always love going back. Honestly, it's like going home in a great way for me. It keeps it interesting and fun. It's like an extended family, the big extended cast. I loved it.

TVGuide.com: She's always had a pretty strong connection with Mark. Do you personally think that Addison should end up with him in the end?

Walsh: Geez, I don't know. I leave that up to [executive producer Shonda Rhimes]. It's so unreal and fantastic that there's all these different amazing dudes for Addison to connect with. They're all special and unique and gorgeous and sexy and fabulous in their own specific way. I do think that one of the strong-suits of the crossover episode is that anytime you see characters that have a history together reunited, there's always that sense of longing, of ennui, and of course, sexual tension. There's that "Well, what could have been?" and "Should we be together?" I thought that was one of the things that was very compelling.

TVGuide.com: Sam turned her down in her time of need. Do you think he's going to regret that or even show some jealousy with Mark there?

Walsh: All is possible. [Laughs.] That's one of the things that makes the characters interesting. Everyone is always trying to do the right thing. Sometimes they do it and regret it and other times they don't do it and regret it. So it's damned if you do and damned if you don't. Sam was behaving and acting like a gentleman and truly looking out for his friend and didn't want to take advantage. Addison is a person who definitely acts out sexually. That's her history and her M.O.

TVGuide.com: And I'm sure kissing Taye Diggs isn't hard either?

Walsh: Yeah, well you know, it's all in a hard day's work.

TVGuide.com: Do you think Addison will ever find true love?

Walsh: Yeah, I think so. It may not be the kind of love that she thinks she's supposed to have, or she may have to relearn what love is, which I think a lot of people can also identify with.

TVGuide.com: Will Addison's fertility issues ever be addressed on the show again?

Walsh: You're going to see that in the latter half of the season. It's one of the things that will come up again. It's a great question and it's one that I've been consumed with and fans have been asking about as well, so I think Shonda is going to deal with that.

TVGuide.com: Will Addison's parents make another visit this season?

Walsh: I hope so. I love those people, they make me really happy. I love having that other facet to play with Addison, that she's so super alpha at work and so flawed in the romance department, but I really love seeing her with her family as somebody's little girl, somebody's daughter, somebody's sister. It's so fun to play and interesting to see. A lot of people can really identify with that dynamic and that relationship. You can be strong and kick-ass, and seemingly happy with your act together, and then anybody who goes home always seems to regress to their most vulnerable childhood age, so I hope they do come back.

Private Practice's Chris Lowell Discusses Aftermath of Explosion

(12/4/09) Thursday night's Private Practice blew the roof off. The two-hour episode claimed the life of Dell's new wife, Heather, in a meth-induced explosion, sending him into a rage. TVGuide.com caught up with Chris Lowell to get the scoop on what happens now that Dell's a single father and if his character will ever be able to trust anyone again.

TVGuide.com: The explosion in Thursday's episode really brought out a side we've never seen before in Dell.

Chris Lowell: What's so nice about this episode, in terms of that specifically, is that it's finally when you see a darker side of Dell. Up until now, he's always been searching for the good, and the right, and the positive and he just got freaking ugly. He just wanted her to die. It was horrible. Some of the stuff I got to say was crazy. It was a lot of fun. You would've expected to see some mercy, but a wall went up with Dell.

TVGuide.com: How will Dell deal with being a single father?

Lowell: I think the biggest challenge for him now is that his daughter — who has always looked up to him as being this heroic, positive figure in her life — now she can't forgive him because she knows that he wouldn't let her see her mother. The struggle now is having to earn his daughter's forgiveness and try to redeem himself in her eyes, which is obviously a tough thing to do. On top of that, he doesn't have a home anymore. He's starting back over when his confidence, morale and ideals have been shattered. It's a low point. Part of his recovery depends wholly on being carried on the shoulders of the other members of the show.

TVGuide.com: Why do you think Dell always ran back to Heather?

Lowell: Dell is a blind idealist. He really tries to see the good in everybody, which is one of the virtues of his character. Unfortunately, it's also one of the major faults because he doesn't ever seem to learn his lesson. As much as we need someone who is constantly seeking out the positive, you always need someone who has been matured by the experiences. Dell, for some reason, keeps falling into the same traps. Heather was a big trap; a big, beautiful trap.

TVGuide.com: Can Dell ever really trust women after this?

Lowell: I guess the one saving grace is his daughter who serves as the diamond in the rough. Even in Episode 8, he revealed his disrespect in many of the decisions made by Violet (Amy Brenneman), by Naomi (Audra McDonald), and of course, freaking Addison (Kate Walsh), who has slept with every doctor in America. He definitely becomes very reserved and untrusting of the women in his life. The only thing that is going to hopefully pull him out of that paranoia is Betsy.

TVGuide.com: The emotional turns in this episode are very different from where Dell started off. Do you feel like you've grown with Dell as he has evolved into this stronger character?

Lowell: That's actually a great question. I think that Shonda Rhimes has definitely taken this character from being this shallow, surfer eye candy to a very legitimate character on the show with very heavy emotional moments and scenes. It really is just the greatest compliment to receive as an actor from the creator of the show, to be given material as heavy as this.

TVGuide.com: We should leave this interview on a high, happy note. What good things can we look forward to for Dell?

Lowell: I think that the most important thing that's going to come out of this for him is that Dell needs to learn a little street smarts. He needs to realize that not everyone is entirely good or bad. Ultimately, despite the fact that he's always being burned for his philosophies, it's what makes him who he is and what everyone loves about him. It's one thing he really knows to be true about himself. Even in the darkest hour, he still can't deny that in himself.

Rosanna Arquette to Guest-Star on Private Practice

(12/4/09) Rosanna Arquette will guest-star on Private Practice, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.

The 50-year-old actress — who appeared on another Shonda Rhimes program, Grey's Anatomy, as an inmate who jeopardized her health to evade solitary confinement — will be playing the bohemian mother of Dink (Stephen Lunsford), who happens to be Maya Bennett's new boyfriend. Maya is the daughter of Sam (Taye Diggs) and Naomi (Audra McDonald).

Arquette, who recently guest-starred on two episodes of ABC's Eastwick, is scheduled to appear in one episode of Private Practice in early February.

Who's Finally "Unraveling" on Private Practice?

(12/3/09) The world of ABC's Private Practice is supposed to be different from the world of Grey's Anatomy. Seattle Grace is about high-powered fancy-hospital medicine, while Oceanside Wellness allegedly takes a more integrative, holistic approach.

So why the heck are the Private Practice characters even more screwed up than the ones on Grey's Anatomy? You would think that the combination of Oceanside's low-pressure environment, the SoCal sunshine and Pete's aromatherapy would result in a bunch of happy, relaxed doctors who deal with their problems in a responsible, sensitive manner, but no such luck.

Want to see some of the craziness for yourself? Well, you're in luck, because tonight the series is putting together a two-hour fiesta of explosions, fight scenes and general hysteria. What's going down and why should you watch, especially if you don't usually make room for Private Practice on your Thursday-night schedule? Here's what supersexy stars Taye Diggs and Chris Lowell are spilling about the plot-twist extravaganza:

If you've been looking for a chance to worry about apple-cheeked midwife Dell, now would be a good time to start. Lowell tells us that sweet little Dell is in big trouble: "I think what we're gonna see is that [Dell remarrying Heather] was a big mistake. It was one of those things I remember when it was revealed that Dell married Heather, it was like 'What the hell?' I think Dell is sort of this character on the show who is known for his positivity and his idealism and his sort of wishful thinking and all of it sort of comes crashing down after episode 10, at least it sort of shakes the ground that he stands upon."

You might want to brace yourselves, because tonight's episode, which focuses on the aftermath of an explosion at Dell's house that injures his wife, Heather, and daughter, Betsy, is just the beginning of a major downward spiral for Dell. Lowell says, "He's definitely unraveling. There's a lot that's going to change as a result of the decisions that he's made this season and towards the end of last season. A lot of these decisions weren't made with any negative mindset, he always tries to do the right thing, but I think he's sort of starting to realize the consequences of best-laid plans." Dude, you've got to find a way to ditch the junkie wife!

BTW, Dell's problem's don't happen in isolation. As Diggs tells us, "Once that situation happens with him [Dell], it's interesting seeing how it affects all the other members of the practice. We all want to be there for each other, but then at the same time, that one member is under so much stress that he or she starts acting out and that affects everybody in a different way. It's a family drama."

Speaking of family dramas, former couple Sam and Naomi are having some big problems of their own. Their daughter, Maya, is unraveling a little bit herself, going from total good girl to "bad" girl who wants to have sexual intercourse. According to Taye Diggs, Maya's parents cope with this is wildly different ways. Translation: Sam is going to be good cop to Naomi's freaked-out bad cop. As Taye tells us, "[Sam and Naomi] have been lucky in that we're both kind of conservative, and for the most part we kind of play by the rules, and we haven't had any issues to this point, and we haven't had any challenges. Our daughter is sent on a path similar to the one I would assume Naomi was on when she was younger and when something threatens to get in the way of that, the crap hits the fan."

But don't expect that this crisis means a reunion for the divorced couple. According to Diggs, "I think that what's happening with our daughter is bringing us together, allowing us to get to know each other on a different level with this familial crisis that is happening with our daughter, but I don't think we're getting back together anytime soon."

Do you think Dell's "unraveling" is the beginning of the end for Chris Lowell's character on Private Practice? And what do you want to see happen for Sam and Naomi? Are you OK with them apart, or do you secretly hope for Daddy and Mommy to get back together?

Private Practice: Taye Diggs on an Addison and Sam Coupling

(12/2/09) Two hours of Private Practice are airing Thursday (9/8c on ABC). Besides the giant meth-induced explosion at Dell's house, the double dose of the show promises some family drama. To get a taste of what we're in for, TVGuide.com chatted with Taye Diggs, who spilled that Addison (Kate Walsh) and Sam are definitely not over. He also teases the possibility of another crossover with Grey's Anatomy.

TVGuide.com: In this week's two-hour episode, Sam and Naomi (Audra McDonald) are learning new things about their daughter. What can you tell me about that story line?

Taye Diggs: We're forced to spend a little more time physically together because obviously our daughter — who knows whether or not she's sexually active. It throws us both for a loop. You see how we handle the situation and how we handle the new dynamic of being separated and how you're forced to come together to figure out a family crisis.

    TVGuide.com: Is their daughter pregnant?

Diggs: She is not! No. [Laughs] It's the idea that she could be in the future because that's what happens with the birds and the bees. I think we get so upset, at least Naomi gets so upset because that's something she never wants to happen.

TVGuide.com: What's going on really with Sam and Naomi? Do you want to see them together?

Diggs: I think the writers have done a really great job of portraying an accurate view of a relationship. These guys have been together for a really long time. They don't know what their relationship is truly outside the one they've had forever. I love the fact that they're letting these two characters breathe a little bit. I don't think it would be crazy if they got back together. It's fun to explore Sam single, though.

TVGuide.com: I'm part of the fan group that wants to see Addison and Sam get together, actually.

Diggs: I think that makes for good television. If Naomi ever found out, I think the crap would definitely hit the fan and I think that's always fun to watch on the boob tube. Knowing Shonda Rhimes, I think they're going to drag this out for as long as possible and keep us waiting. I know that they're treating this relationship very tenderly because the friendship between Addison and Naomi is in a tenuous place.

TVGuide.com: Who would you rather see Sam get together with: Naomi or Addison?

Diggs: I think it would be fun to see what happens with Addison. I can't imagine they would end up together in the long run, but it would be interesting to see how it affects the rest of the practice and, of course, Naomi. From the character's perspective, I feel like Naomi has done Sam wrong one too many times. I'm a little spiteful, so I wouldn't mind if Naomi found out because I think she deserves it. [Laughs]

TVGuide.com: This week, every doctor will have a hand in trying to save Dell's family after the big explosion. How will that affect the dynamic at Oceanside Wellness?

Diggs: Dell [Chris Lowell] is a member of the family, and when anything that severe happens to a family member, you see the ripples throughout the rest of the family. We all gather in trying to help him. Craziness happens because he's under all this stress and pressure. He lashes out and relationships get tested.

TVGuide.com: Are there plans for more crossovers between Grey's and Private? The chemistry between Sam and Bailey is amazing.

Diggs: Chandra Wilson is an amazing actress to work with. Whenever we get together we have a lot of fun. I know that they are planning another crossover. When? I don't know, but I have heard the rumblings. I don't know what characters, but they definitely want to use that and play that card soon.

TVGuide.com: What do you think makes Private Practice stand on its own now, away from Grey's Anatomy?

Diggs: I'm very fortunate to work with some really amazing actors that I respect and look up to. I think that has a lot to do with it. I think the writing is getting better and better. We have the luxury of having time to breathe and delve into and flesh out our characters. That and the crazy element of luck. It's just the right time and the right kind of climate. People are digging it and I hope that they continue to.

TVGuide.com: Has Fox approached you or wife, Idina Menzel, to go on Glee?

Diggs: I don't if I could. I would love to, I love that show. I think there's a situation with the opposing networks, there's a conflict. I'm a huge fan, though. It would be great if I could.

    Walsh joins indie film "Waska"

(11/30/09) Thomas Dekker, Lynn Collins, Jeremy Piven and Kate Walsh are starring in the indie drama "Waska."

Mira Sorvino, Elizabeth McGovern and Joseph Morgan are also in the movie, which is based on a novel by Leslie Schwartz.

The story follows a young father (Dekker) whose 3-year-old son freezes to death during a fishing trip. As a local prosecutor (Piven) goes after him, townspeople including his ex-wife (Collins) rage at him and others support him as he attempts to makes sense of what happened.

Catherine Trieschmann wrote the adaptation, which is being directed by Gaby Dellal. Tim Perell and Shirley Vercruysse of Process Film are producing the project.

"Entourage" star Piven also is lending his voice to the animated feature "Marmaduke." Collins will shoot "John Carter of Mars" after wrapping "Waska." She most recently co-starred in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." Walsh stars on ABC's "Private Practice" and will be seen on the big screen in the fantasy thriller "Legion" and the comedy "Hot Tub Time Machine."

Sorvino recently wrapped the Russian-produced war drama "Leningrad" with Gabriel Byrne. Dekker is best known for starring as John Connor in "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and next appears in "A Nightmare on Elm Street."

    Kadee Strickland: Ready for McSteamy!

(11/23/09) Private Practice will get a whole lot McSteamier when a certain somebody from Grey’s Anatomy crosses over for an upcoming episode.

“You’ll get a taste of what you love with Addison [Kate Walsh] and Sloane [Eric Dane],” Kadee Strickland, who plays Charolotte, told to TVGuideMagazine.com at the OCEANA Partners Award Gala in Los Angeles on November 20. Their relationship “is never simple and always fun to watch. They have great chemistry. It’s really cool having him come over.”

So what was it like having Dane in the building? “He kept saying, ‘Everyone’s so nice!’ I think it’s great,” said Strickland. “You never know, because he has his home [at Grey’s Anatomy]. I’m sure he feels safe and nice there and now he gets to come over. It’s like he changed schools. He’s a very sweet man.”

As for Charolotte, Strickland loves where the storyline is headed. “This whole sexology thing that I get to do? It runs the gamut from trannies to sexual dysfunction. I have tons of stuff to play with. I can’t wait!”
