Do you ICQ?
I am
Welcome to my homepage, the home of Honey Road Apiaries. I am located in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario and keep bees east of the city. I currently have 3 hives right now, due to poor over wintering. I have three bee yards located in Maclellan and Bar River. I have been beekeeping for the past 9 years and have accumulated a significant amount of knowledge and information. When I first started, I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information available on the internet. I learned a great deal from information posted on web sites and from chatting with other beekeepers. I have tried to share this knowledge and some of my experiences on this homepage. The secret to beekeeping is to learn as much as you can, and then decide what you think is best for yourself. What works for others does not mean it will work for you.
Beekeeping is a very enjoyable and (can be) relaxing hobby. For those of you interested in beginning beekeeping, I can help point you in the right direction. I also have included a diary of some of my past experiences. Some are comical, but at the time they were far from it. At first, I tried to keep it as an up to date diary, but as my number of hives grew last year, this became more and more of a problem to find the time to keep it up to date. I hope to include highlights and interesting bits of information in the future.
I have included a page on American Foulbrood. I attended the symposium on AFB after my summer of 99 was overshadowed by this horrible disease. I, as I suppose many others have, under estimated the seriousness of this disease. When I discovered the disease, it was too late. I lost quite a few hives to swarming, as I discovered the AFB at the beginning of a honey flow. I cannot over emphasize the importance of prevention, (but I am still at odds at the principal of medicating as a means of prevention) and "cutting your losses" when the disease is found.
If you are looking for information on starting beekeeping, see the main . I also have included pages with information on equipment and nucs vs packages. And for those of you who have wondered what a queen cell looks like, I also have a page on that topic. If you are looking for some more information and other sites to visit, go to the web link page. ![]()
Please, Sign my Guest Book. I'm always interested in talking bees, so send me your questions or comments. If I can't help you with your question, I'm sure I can find someone who has the answers.
Do you ICQ? If you are looking to contact other beekeeper, or to keep in touch with friends and relatives over the internet, ICQ is the program for you. There are several means of contacting beekeepers or getting answers to your questions; the BEE-L listserver is the most popular, a complete list can be found at Beesource.com; the sci.agriculture.beekeeping newsgroup is also a good source of information.
Looking for a local or provincial/state beekeepers Association. The editors at Bee Culture Magazine have compiled a very extensive list. For those of you in the District of Algoma, The Algoma Beekeepers Association has folded for the time being, due to lack of interest. If your in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, their is the Superiorlands Beekeepers Association. Send me an email if your intersted in more info.
.
Check out my Past Pics page. I've included photos from the past, as well as other photos which I had no room for over the past few years.
